Im taking a trip from PA to CO in mid july. Ill be in the crested butte area, and I heard that areas like pearl pass will be impassable then. Is this true? In late july last year there was not a snowflake on the trails
thinking about doing a run up to wheeler lakes this saturday, anybody know how much of it is open? i know that the last climb up the creek has no chance, but didn't know if any of it was passable yet.
Went up to Peru Creek yesterday. Clear to the top at about 11,400 feet. The run off is incredible, little streams last year are down right dangerous now. Made one creek crossing that got just over the front bumper. Had to do it a couple more times for pictures. Nothing too dangerous, just fun.
Most of the road up Peru creek is covered with run off and there are some deep ruts formed in some places. I am sure many areas of the mountains will be snowed in all summer this year.

what can y'all tell me about mosquito pass? looks like one of the local groups is givin it a run next weekend and I was thinking of going.. the only problem is it will include my wife, dog, and son who is only 1.. don't want anything difficult. traildamage says 2-3 but Colorado Backcountry Guide says 6 of 10... thats a big difference... thoughts? will there be too much snow still?
Mosquito Pass is easily doable by any stock Jeep, but the scenery is great. However, I'm pretty sure its still heavily snowed in, much like all the high country trails currently are. Its gonna be a short 1.5 month wheelin season this year!
I love Mosquito Pass. It's one of the few trails I have run multiple times. I think a stock JK can do it, but I agree about the snow. Parts of the trail will get skinny where meeting oncoming riders could be a problem.
