That's one of many compelling reasons to stay in TX.

I carry a gun because a cop is too heavy.

Default Yes. Absolutely, I have it.

Wife hated it at first when I started carrying, but I didn't, and still don't, care. Our lives are more important to me than her disdain for my carrying. She's gotten used to it now, and it's not a big deal anymore.

To me, carrying is a bit like using your seatbelt. Chances of needing it are slim, but it is a whole hell of a lot better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. And if you need it, there is no substitute for it. That being said, I think if one is going to carry a firearm, they need to be mentally and emotionally prepared to use it, or else it is nothing but a liability. If a person is not okay with the idea of taking another's life in self defense, they don't need to be carrying IMHO. There are less lethal (albeit less effective) means of defense for folks that feel a firearm is not morally justifiable....

I'm not one of those folks:

YMMV.

I hope I don't end up here forever either. I can't stand this place.

Wife and I both carry. Permit in Indiana allows open carry, but I don't want to be a target...
I have been in business training shooters for quite a few years now.

When I was first dating the wife about 5 years ago, she was at the tail end of a relationship that resulted in a VIOLENT stalker (jumped in her car once and beat her to the point of hospitalization). 1 protective order, 4 days training, 1 OK (living in Oklahoma at the time) CCW permit and 2 handguns later, he aint' stalking no more. He was calmly informed on his LAST harrassing call that the protective order allowed me to legally KILL HIS ASS if he violated distance order, and that I had lots of practice on Uncle Sam's travel dime. Taught her to shoot, instilled the sheepdog mentality, and presto, no more fear, no more hiding behind locked doors.
NOW her AR-15 is nicer than mine, and her EDC pistol is also nicer than mine... How'd THAT happen??

I have had mine for about 4 years now and carry my G26 daily. My reason is that I love my family and feel that as a man it is my responsibility to protect us. I pray that I will never have to use it.

I have been carrying for 15 years with a break in St. Luis. I live in TX now and feel they have the best CCW laws. Now this is my interpertation and have heard the same interpratation from many others including one police officer so take it with a grain of sand...

You have the same rights as a police except you don't have to ask quesitons before you shoot. Basically, you can use leathal force to protect your property even if the person who is taking it from you has their back facing you.
