Default 2012 CB & Antenna installation

I installed the CB and Antenna this past week. I located the CB in the center console and ran the power cord up through the bottom. I used a 2 foot antenna and mounted the antenna on the rear. It barely comes above the roof. I also used a quick disconnect so it can be removed easy if necessary. I figured no more than I will use it, that inside the console will work fine for me.

hopefully an easy question: can i just run a positive line from the battery into the cabin and splice it with the CB? How do I ground it then? Or better to run a pos and neg together from the battery? do i need to disconnect the battery to do this? or just connect the neg first at the CB side?

Yes, but I would connect it to the CB first then to the battery last. I would recommend adding a fuse inline with the hot lead coming from the battery. I only ran one wire from the battery inside the vehicle and grounded mine to a bolt inside the vehicle.

thanks. the cb has an inline fuse already. do I need to ground the cb first before connecting the positive?

Doesn't matter but I would make sure the CB is turned off so it doesn't spark as much when you connect the wires.

The reason for the fuse is to protect the Jeep, not your CB. You should install an additional fuse on the positive lead as close to the battery as possible. Imagine, for example, if something were to pinch the non-fused part of the positive lead to ground. Plenty of vehicle fires have started this way. Just trying to help protect your investment.

So, between the cb and the battery, along the same positive line, there should be two fuses? One at each end?

There's enough room to get to the latches, and if you buy the mount, they also include wire and fuse to connect battery to mount. Here's where I have my antenna.

So after reading all the post about mounts and blah blah I think I've settled on what I want, here is my question... Looking at your antenna mount I know on my 13 the rear window goes over too far to mount to the tub. Is there a problem with mounting it to the top of the brake light? No one has shown this and I didn't know if there was a reason. Obviously it would have to be reinforced and grounded properly but it seems to be a pretty good location. Any thoughts?
