I really like your approach - looks really handy. How did you attach it to your dash?

I just got my Teraflex CB/Hi-Lift mount, so hopefully I'll be mounting my radio soon. I have yet to hold it up to check out if it interferes with anything yet. Seems like a majority of everyone is mounting it up there though. Hopefully my radio won't be too big where I can't use my mirror.

Here's a great thread for antenna placement:

https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/jk-c...r-jeep-227276/

Your antenna will run parallel to the jack: you may have SWR issues if it reflects the signal back. Suggest running a braided ground strap from the mount directly to the tub or frame. Don't depend on the greased hinges to have constant ground. Regarding the overhead footman loop location: take an erector set line of thinking to the project. You can always bend the metal or get creative with brackets. Good luck.

Thanks. I'm only planning on running the Hi-Lift when I go wheeling. I may even do two separate antennas. One tuned for with the jack, and one tuned without.

Running braided ground strap was part of my initial install plans, but I checked my antenna before I put it on. High SWR!! Bonding the gate resulted in a 1.2:1 SWR or less across all 40 Channels, no trimming necessary. You can run the bonding strap through the same holes the the plastic trim piece uses to clip in.

I didn't feel like pulling everything apart. Here are 2 pictures of how I routed it. Finding the bolts on either end is easy, once you have the plastic covers off just find a bolt and scrape some paint.

I'll have to look into a place for a grounding strap since I have the Teraflex carrier.

Well I finally went out to try and see if my CB would fit above my mirror, which it doesn't. I guess it's back to the drawing board. I'll have to page through this thread again and see if I can find something else. I can't put it on the left side of the console, under the steering wheel, or if front of the shifter since none of those will work for me. I was looking at the passenger side of the console, but I'm not sure yet. I'll have to check it with someone in there to see how they feel.

Default I also have a high SWR on my Cobra 29LTD Amry Edition.

I've had about 4 or 5 other CBs and never had a problem with high SWR till this one. I have my antenna mounted on a bracket on my gate to the tire holder. I know I've got it all set up, mounted and grounded correctly, yet I still get a SWR over 3. So putting a bonding strap on the gate would fix that? How does the strap attach to the antenna? I understand you have the other end grounded to a clean ground. If you could explain this to me, I'd really appreciate it. I've had that CB in an '07 for 2 yrs and traded the '07 in on a '13. I was thinking about selling the Cobra until I saw that they've turned into a bit of a collector's item, plus I like the looks of the radio since I converted it into a Marine Corps edition (nothing that's not reversible. Also, where would I buy a grounding strap like that? Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated, Bro.

Thanks

Jim
