Just did my install of the Cobra 75. Easily done except for having no soldering iron to connect the cable to the adapter.

Off to Home Depot I go.

I used the antenna mountinbracket that I got with my LOD bumper and carrier and mounted it just above the rubber plug on the tailgate. This allows it to just poke out a tiny bit and not have any cable exposed outside. I also got the 4' blue firestik II with a quick disconnect so I don't break it off going in and out of the garage. I grounded the gate to the body with extra wire even though many write ups say it's not necessary. I also used an AUX cable and hooked it up to the radio instead of buying an external speaker.
I also went directly to the battery with the positive wire so there is no feedback and I can use it while the Jeep is off. This was a very easy install and I even had time to install my JKS Quicker Disconnects.

All in time for Shamrocked this weekend! Woo Hoo!

I'm also picking up a Simpson Strong Tie while I'm at Home Depot and custom making my own mounting bracket instead of paying $20 plus shipping for the Cooltech Versamount. I revived an old write up here....

Here's some pics of my mount and antenna....

While getting the antenna tuned the CB shop guy said that if my quick disconnect hits that metal screw I'm gonna fry something and I won't be happy. I came home and wrapped the quick disconnect and base of the antenna twice with electrical tape.

Just an FYI for those with quick disconnects and/or have a mount too close to metal.

Good to know.

Couldn't you just flip that mount the other way around, with "L" bracket upside down? I think that would avoid hitting the metal screw.

I was thinking about that. Or putting it on the bolt below that. I just don't want to dremel off anymore paint than I already have under the current bolts. I'm gonna be washing it tomorrow and gonna see if I can flip it without a lot of cable showing. I'll post a pic tomorrow after I get it all set.

BTW...he also said it's a common problem with the disconnects. People tap them on the body or carrier while attaching or disconnecting and poof!

Turn your radio equipment OFF while connecting/disconnecting your antenna and there will be no problems.

Lol, I think this is why I've never had an issue with mine. It's always off when I disconnect
