It's going to turn into an even better deal - a full set of door surrounds was included and since I definitely don't need them, I think I'll put them on eBay where they'll probably sell for more than I paid for the whole deal .

I'm jealous. I would say you could ship them to my house but it will be a bit before i have enough for a top to go with them haha. I will be scouring Craigslist for my $75 complete top in the meantime.

I wasn't thinking about putting clear panels in the soft roof, that's an interesting idea. I'll give it some thought, thanks.

Having Roll-up side windows on the soft top , like the Jeeps of old !. I had a CJ3A with a Kayline top, or OEM , don't remember which, but sides rolled up, (at least the back still does) , that was so versatile.

There will be tie-in brackets between the rack and the roll bars so all of the weight in the rack is supported by the roll bars; I haven't made up those brackets yet though.

The drip rails are also designed to support racks that mount that way.
Yours definitely slaps the taste out of Smittybilts mouth!!! The design, detail and craftsman ship doesn't even compare! Smitty needs to scrap theirs and need to talk to ya!

Well, maybe not as rough as the Jeeps of old, but I do think roll-ups would be very convenient, especially since the factory soft top side panels really don't fold or store well.

Thank you very much .

When I do something like this hardtop project, I spend more time doing design work than I do actually doing fabrication. I want to make sure I design something that looks right, works well, and meets all my design criteria. I do lots of concept drawings and sketches and get feedback and input from everyone before I begin construction, and usually I adjust my design before construction based on the input from everyone.

I don't think they followed a similar design process.

She's looking forward to having it finished - she likes the barn door in the back much better than the two-step hatch/tailgate operation. The modularity and other features don't interest her so much.

About ideas for using the extra factory soft top panels I've got, I was talking to a friend who really likes the idea of putting slider windows in them, like the Bestop TrekTop Pro...

In this photo a spare slider I've got on hand is just sitting on the factory soft side, it wouldn't be hard to install the window in the extra soft top panels I'm looking for a use for. Then they could be used to give the factory soft top slider windows. But I wonder how useful it would be?
