Why would that be so scary? They're designed to be used everywhere. Plus, I've seen them mounted outside of plenty of Jeeps for years without a problem.

Though, one bit of advice for him; don't use bungee cords. The white handles on either side are meant to be used as tie down points. Ratchet strap that heavy bitch down man.

Just noticed i put one pic in there without the rack and can't take it off now. Oh well.
My rack is due to arrive this week and I'm curious about the wind deflector. Is it quieter without the wind deflector? I thought the deflector was supposed to reduce the wind noise with the soft top?

It depends on which deflector you have. I can only speak for the older version one that i had. It reduces the actual wind noise, but creates a wind pattern that causes more flapping with the soft top on the bars. The new deflector is supposed to be better for both, but I wouldn't know. The wind noise with 4 hella lights doesnt bother me much. The flapping was not tolerable though. I also wrapped two of the closest bars with black insulation to keep it from flapping too. Its not noticeable and was added to keep a little tension on the softtop. Hope that helps. Feel free to pm me.

Thanks for the quick reply. I understand what you're saying about the roof flapping. I can deal with a little added noise but not the flapping. I'll try the deflector (it's being shipped with the rack) and see how it works. I like your idea of using the pipe insulation for a little down force on the soft top. Thanks for the information.

This is how I'd like to set up my JK, how about a "must have" list of what makes an "expedition" rig....
