Expedition Modded Jeeps - Let's see 'em!!
How do you like that tire carrier? I always like it but was told that accidents with those really does some damage to the tub?
I struck gold!!
Junk Yard Gold!
I just picked up a Surco Roof rack minus the mounts from a local junk yard for $25 yup $25
Going to order the j600 mount kit from Surco on Monday. The J600 mounts look horrible on the 2 door but on the 4 door it moves the rear brace back so it does not run right down the middle of the window on the hard top. Only issue I see is that it does not work with a soft top but who can be picky for $25
Roof rack here I come!
I will post picks when I get it all done!

This tire carrier is awesome!! If I were to go buy another JK today, I would put the same carrier on tomorrow. It's lighter than any other carrier out there and carries two 3-gallon rotopax cans.
As for accidents, I imagine in a good size accident you would see some pretty tweaked corners. I have accidentally backed into a car
after I first put it on. My spare tire mashed up his toyota pretty bad, but there was no damage or denting to the contact points of the carrier and body. So my assumption is that any accident that would do damage to the tub, would have done tub damage without the carrier anyway.
You mean departure angle? I've never hit the tire on the way off something, but I have been worried a couple times.... like this...

But it cleared fine. To be honest, my JKU is supposed to be more for overland than crawling. Coming off of big rocks and obstacles is not common place for me haha. But to btter answer your question, the version I have with the Rotopax behind it makes the tire stick out about 7" further than if it were against the tail gate.
Picture of it when I first got it
