So I'm going to be turning my JKU into an expedition/overland rig and I'm going to change out my lift. It is my DD and I am looking at AEV kits. I like the look of my 4" but it seems a majority of people here run a 2.5", would running the 3.5" from AEV be a huge negative for me? Any other recommendations?

I wouldn't change out a 4 for a 2.5 or 3.5. I have a 3.5 with another 3/4 spacer but with the full width arb bumpers, full roof rack, tire carrier and all the gear that goes with it the jeep settles quite a bit. Fully loaded it needs all the lift I have to clear the 35's. Now, you could run smaller tires and a lot of people do. I personally like the looks of a 35 inch tire on a 4dr. On the 2012 and newer, if you run a 2.5 inch lift, you will need a front shaft and exhaust spacers anyway.

^ nice jeep. I agree with the factoring in the weight of bumpers, and the latter 35" tire size that will be going on after the lift sooner or later.
I think I will be going the 3.5" rather than 2.5" when I do now. Thanks.

my $0.02 from what I have learned on here and what I think. can you get by with the 2.5" lift, will it clear the tires you want? the lower lift should help in wear and tear on the drive train & suspension and could give a little better return in MPG. I put on a 2.5 MetalCloak and skid plates to protect the underside of my Jeep.

I think that's the route I'm going to be taking as well. It was another thought of mine to go with the 3.5" because of all the added weight.
