Mark- Did you have reservations about drilling into your top for the rack? I think that is one reason why the Gobis are so popular, I am very hesitant to permanently alter my JK but do quite like how those MBRP racks look.

We had also planned to drive through Monticello Canyon, but didn't make it. And on the last night forecast was for snow, and since three of the folks had to get back to work in Texas the day after, several of our group didn't want to risk getting stuck in the backcountry that last night.

Yep, this is me ...
Do you ever have issues while traveling about rear window (visibility ) with police from town to town?
or have you had any inspection sticker problems regarding / maybe if you have rear camera for back up its ok ? I see even inside your cargo space its loaded up with gear to roof top .
not sure how much of a issue if at all this can be .
Not that visibility is good out of the rear of any jeep !

I had no reservations. Just measured twice and drilled once, LOL! I like the MBRP rack because it means when I run without a hardtop, the rack is gone. I don't have to do something special to also remove it. However, it does make removing the hardtop a three, even four, person job. One person can get it ready in about 15-20 minutes, then you need the three or four for five minutes to actually pull the top. The getting it ready part, for me, is because of the front extension (which I can leave the light bar part on, BTW).

I have never been bothered about rear window vis. But, you're absolutely correct, it is terrible. I think as long as you have two side mirrors you're cool in most places. The way I pack it right now I put a ladder in the center of the upper rack. So, I can see past it to see anything big back there, as well as use the side mirrors extensively.

This method of putting everything together makes trail life way-y-y-y easier. I don't have to pull stuff out to get at other stuff. I don't put as much up on top of the Jeep, which makes access to that stuff that would have been up there easier, and lowers the Jeep's COG, making travel and off-camber situations safer. Bottom line I really like it. A friend rode with me on the NM trip, and he was so impressed with how much easier everything was that he promptly ordered almost all of the same gear to set up his own JKU the same way.

I know around here , inspection stations prob would fail it most likely unless you know someone ,
and of course the police may have good reason to pull you over and then write you up on it and the discover the tires sticking out past the fenders even a tad , wich mine do kinda makes me reluctant , yet tempted at the same time
maybe a camera back up would save my @rse ? so far your expedition rig is the best ive seen . btw great videos also

Default with out going to far off the topic (question )

I note you have the cobra 75 .
is there any advantage to either the cobra 75 verses midland 75 besides the obvious once set up on a fire stick ?

Seeing you use yours a lot while in your journeys id figure yould have great insight on it . im looking at either of the two and cant decide on wich to order .

I like the Cobra 75. No experience with the Midland. My biggest problem is the antenna--it gets banged around on trails enough here, damaging the antenna so folks can't hear me. I've resigned myself to just carrying a spare antenna.

Here is New Hamphire state ordinance on rear view mirrors. Have it handy in case the person doing the inspection gives you grief ...

Chapter 266:55 Mirrors. – No person shall drive upon any way any closed motor vehicle, or motor vehicle so constructed, equipped, or loaded that the driver is prevented from having a constantly free and unobstructed view of the way immediately in the rear, unless there is attached to the vehicle a mirror or reflector so placed and adjusted as to afford the driver a clear, reflected view of the way in the rear of the vehicle.
Source. 1921, 119:6. PL 103:8. RL 119:12. RSA 263:22. 1981, 146:1, eff. Jan. 1, 1982.

Added: 5-29-09 Saf-C 3200

Saf-C 3217.04 Outside Rear View Mirrors.
(a) A vehicle shall be rejected if the left hand outside rear view mirror:
- (1) Is not in the correct location on the vehicle;
- (2) Is not firmly mounted;
- (3) Has cracks;
- (4) Extends to the left of the vehicle body more than necessary; or
- (5) Does not afford a clear view of the road to the rear of the vehicle.
Saf-C 3217.05 Inside Rear View Mirror.
(a) A vehicle shall be rejected if the inside rearview mirror:
- (1) Is loose, so that the driver’s rear vision is impaired;
- (2) Is located in a position that does not give the driver a clear view of the road at least 200 feet to the rear of the vehicle;
- (3) Is cracked or broken;
- (4) Has sharp edges; or
- (5) Does not stay in position when adjusted.
(b) If the rear of the vehicle is blocked, the vehicle shall be exempt from having a rearview mirror, as long as the vehicle is equipped with outside mirrors on the left and the right.

And, for the record, Oklahoma does not have a state inspection program. It dawned on someone how useless they are so they did away with it about a decade ago.

Default but wouldnt # 5 be the one

they could claim is the obstruction if they stand behind your wheel and ask how many fingers they have up ?
midde one not counting :
ill be honest I cant see diddley when im backing up when mall crawling I came 6 inches from hitting a parked car behind me a few days ago made me think . I realy should have a rear view lens or something to see directly behind . Every thing was clear through my 2 side mirrors. if I had my cargo rack on I would have creamed the guys front end not seeing it . lucky, it Could have been a person putting groceries in the back of their car to make matters worse .

maybe a fish eye mirror glued on side mirror would show . not sure ? this might be worth my while or similar http://www.crutchfield.com/p_220ACA2...7987065&awdv=c

salt from roads in these weather conditions it prob wouldn't see well anyway . thanks for info

Your fine as long as you have both side mirrors. This problem exist for every car/truck/semi pulling a box/travel trailer down the road. I laugh at people who have to look over there shoulder or use the inside mirror to backup. Try backing a 5th wheel camper that way, you cannot see squat. Learn to use your side mirrors and you will become very good at it.
