My JK had the factory 730N Nav, but I wasnt too stoked on it. I was thinking of getting a Lowrance for off road use, but if there are programs for the N7 that are as good that would be cool, as the N7 could offer more uses. Im guessing the N7 GPS will still work without data connection? Also what app is that for monitoring the Jeep?
Apps such as Co-Pilot will work without a data connection. DashCommand works well for monitoring the Jeep.

I have a Samsung Note 8" tablet and use the Back Country Maps app also.. Great app.
I was going to get the Nexus 7", but I found out that in landscape mode I could not view the screen with my polarized prescription sunglasses on. The Nexus 7 must have some kind of filter as part of the screen.
The Samsung does not have this problem. I would have preferred the Nexus since it's much better value $$ wise..

I can also control/view in real time my GoPro 3+ camera over WiFi. It's good for setting up the shot> But it sucks battery dry fast on the GoPro, so I turn the feature when I don't need it.

This must be where they got the term distracted driving....

Seriously though, what have you got on those displays? I'm guessing one's a backup camera. What's the display above the mirror with 37 on it ?

LOL! They actually don't distract at all once you're used to having them there.

The display you're referring to is a TM2 Engine Watchdog. It has a sensor that is wired from the unit to the engine bay. You can attach the sensor to whetever you like and it will monitor the temperature for you. You can also set a temp that if it reaches it will alert you via an alarm. Very handy little device. The screen to the right of the CB is a reversing cam. To the left of the CB is the Garmin GDR35 vehicle recorder. Above the CB is the Scangauge II. I also have Garmin Foretrex 401 which I'm manufacturing a mount for which will sit to the left of the Scangauge. That one will give me a constant digital compass and barometric altimeter displayed and will be removed and carried with when out hiking. The back track function will be great for helping me locate the Jeep again.

I need your knowledge with some electrical stuff. I got my eyes on the National Luna Portable Power Pack and I was wondering if it's okay to connect different capacity batteries with that unit.
I've searched and read for hours, but didn't find a straight answer.
Some say you just shouldn't mix different style batteries like gel or AGM, others say you can't even connect the same battery if one has a different age and/or capacity.

I'm confused...

Is your question, "Is it okay to use the National Luna Portable Power Pack with my XXX battery in my Jeep, or must I change my XXX battery in my Jeep to be the same type and age as that in the National Luna Portable Power Pack?"? If so, the answer is the battery should be safely isolated, I expect. This is a reasonable assumption since National Luna provides no warning over this in their install manual. In fact, their install manual clearly shows two different batteries in their example install diagrams.

If, however, you're trying to modify the design of the National Luna to work with multiple age and types of batteries that you just happen to have laying around (which is how your question actually seems to read), then I would say you definitely should not do that. Contact National Luna if you have some custom install in mind about exactly how the internal circuitry on their device works.

Thank you, Mark.
I actually plan on buying new batteries for both, the Jeep and the power pack. So the batteries will be the same type and manufacturer, but I want to put a larger (Ah) battery in the power pack than the one that fits under the hood.
For example have a yellow top 55Ah in the engine bay and a yellow top 75Ah in the power pack.

Gotcha. I really think this is designed for this. It isn't the same as a dual-battery install where I'd recommend against it. Still, might be best to contact National Luna directly.

For anyone wanting to run the ODB software from there iPad or iPhone this ODB Wifi adapter works very well and is relatively cheap:

WiFi WLAN ELM327 OBD2 Car Code Scanner for iPhone iPod iPad Diagnostic Scan Tool | eBay

If you want to run both a Scangauge II or similar and the ODB software simultaneously you'll just need one of these simple ODB splitters. I have this one which can be bought for just a few bucks and is good quality:

OBD2 OBDII 16 Pin Split Splitter Extension Cable Male to Dual Female | eBay
