I will be going down to dry desert next week for a week of wheeling which would usually require the air filter to be replaced, I suspect after a week of sand wheeling my filter will still be clean. A snorkel costs a lot more than a life of air filters, this advantage is only good on week long plus trips. Before I had a snorkel w/ prefilter I was on a week long trip where people had to change their air filters halfway through because of all the dust being pulled into the air box..

The best pre-filter is probably the 3" TopSpin Pre-cleaner.

Most snorkels have direct and almost horizontal air flow to the air filter box.
The Rugged Ridge modular Snorkel is different, by having a 'sink' under the battery. Because the sink is wider than the pipe, it slows down the air flow and makes it flow in a way that causes sand dust to sink at the bottom. This prevents much of the heavier sand dust particles from reaching the air filter, even without a pre-filter.
(This does not eliminate the need for a pre-filter for the finer-grain sand dust.)

The sink can be drained.

The high mount is tucked in a bit relative to the A-pillar, so it's less vulnerable to branches.

Be aware that it blocks some view through the lower corner of the windscreen.
I'm not sure it fits with a dual battery setup.

Good advice...we get a lot of dust and dirt cruising around the trails around AZ. Thanks!

Any advice on a good bikini top? I found this from Axia Offroad...anyone have any experiences with it? I bought stuff from Axia for my RZR in the past and it was pretty badass.

OK....stupid question but I'll ask. Getting the MBRP roof rack like Mark Doiron has and similarly want to put individual lights across the roof. I will be getting the MBRP light "bar" that attaches to the windshield bracket so it will hold 5 lights and they'll be lower than atop the roof rack itself. Here's the question. Those that run individual lights as such. What's the combination of lights? All spots, all driving or a combination? I.e. - Spots on outer most positions and driving lights in between. Just wonder what works best for you that have this type setup.
Thanks!

Thanks! That's what I was thinking of doing. Just wasn't sure if it was the best route to take.

OK....made me think of another question. What type light do I want up there? HID, Halogen or LED. I heard that while sitting at idle running 5 lights and using your winch simultaneously with anything other than LEDs can be a real strain on the 12 volt system. Thoughts? Was planning on HIDs.

For the rigs with roof racks, what size cb antenna is common and where is yours mounted? I have a Garvin rack and I'm putting a cb on my Christmas list. I don't know if a 3' or 4' antenna would be best though. I guess what I'm asking is what is the shortest antenna that would still be functional? Also, spring or no spring at the base?

Funny you should ask, just used mine for first time in long time while driving last night headed back from shooting sunset at Font's Point. So fresh in my mind what those lights are really useful for:

1. Setting up camp at night.
2. Water fording when other lights might get splashed and crack (if glass), or are underwater.

Note I didn't say "driving back from Font's Pt". LOL. They light up the hood and are too distracting. Of course, I have the shovel and axe. They worked great before I had them up front, when set back at front of basic MBRP rack (check old pics in this thread). Set back there, long range lights are best. At front, if 1 and 2 apply to you, I'd recommend floods.

Oh, the trip to Font's Pt was worth it ...

Mine is mounted on a rack I made that is attached to the OEM tire carrier nutplates. Right now I have a three footer. It just barely pokes above the rack. With over three decades of radio maintenance experience in USAF and before (technician ham license in the 60s and 70s--WB6MPD), I know that is terrible for performance. But any taller and trees slap it around and it quickly breaks internally. Though my range is limited to a half mile or so on the trail and I can't get seriously good SWR, those are better than no CB when it gets broken (as has happened several times). I also wrapped the antenna with F-4 tape (Google it) where it slaps against the trail rack.
