2 door vs 4 door
I am about to buy a JK as well and it will be a 2 doors. I do think jeep did a great job with the 4 dr, but to me the real jeep comes with 2 doors. The 2dr is what makes it fun, short wheelbase, amazing turning radius... To me the 4dr is more a family car, if I had two or three kids, this is probably what I would get, but I would feel I am compromising. Also the 2dr has some advantages, if you get the half door, you only need 2 rather than 4, the soft top is a bit easier to unfold, etc... Also every-time I see the 4dr with no doors, I don't like the look so much.
I'll chime in, I have a 2 dr and love it. I have a wife and one child and the 2 dr fits us fine, in fact my daughter can get in the back in about 5 seconds, no problems with that. I think the 2 dr looks more like a traditional jeep. Don't get me wrong if I had more kids I would have gotten the 4 dr. Lets be real I'd rather have a jeep than anything else no matter how many doors it had. Just my .02

I was thinking about this on the way home and it would be interesting to see the results of a poll with different options. I am curios how many no-children families or single folks purchased a 4 door and how many folks with a family of kids went with a 2 door, and weird combos like that.
I am in one of those weird combos myself. I am married 5yrs now but we have no kids. I also went with a 4 door Jeep...I never even drove a 2door to be honest. The 4 doors with all the space just seemed more reasonable. Same with the last car I had it was a sedan and even though the back seat might not be used by passengers even once per month I was glad I had it. I haul computer equipment around often at work and that is what my back seat has been used for mostly so far. We are not hardcore campers but we do enjoy it so that is another that added into the mix. This summer when we take the top down for a little cruising or hit the dunes at the ORV it will be that much more fun when we can invite another couple or if my wife invites any of her friends imagine how "cool" I will look with a jeep full of chicks
Seriously though I think its wrong to ask which is "better", you should ask yourself what makes more sense to you, your lifestyle, and how will you use it? This is my first Jeep and while some may not consider it a "real" Jeep because it has 4 doors...well I say this: Its still a Jeep to me and I have no shame in what I drive

To me, the 2dr is one sexy beotch! I gotta have the classic lines of the half-doors too. But if I was forced to have only have 1 vehicle in my garage, it would be a 4dr rubi diesel. Did I just say diesel? Maybe it's that $5/gal gas I'm seeing in CA.
I'm married but we don't have kids right now. We only briefly looked at 2 doors when we were considering buying a used one. Once we changed our mine to a new one, then the 4 door was the only one we thought was worth buying. The 2 door to us was full of too many compromises. Sure the 2 door may have a little better turning radius and break over angle for the trails but considering that our jeep will spend 80-90% of it's time driving around in city streets, this wasn't a big deal to us. We only planned to do the monthly local club trail runs otherwise. The fact that it has tons of room and will drive way better on icy and snowy streets was far more important and mainly why we went with the 4 door. Besides, if we have friends with us, the 2 door back seat is a HUGE pain to get back into. And last but not least, the 4 door model just looks right with its dimensions while the 2 door looks like it's an unfinished design... at least to me.

Both are really good Jeeps and to me it would totally depend on what your plans are for now and the future. Both Rhonda and I each have 2 DR's, RubyDoo is set-up to be more the hard core type wheeler and RubyJeep is more the comuter/wheeler type as Rhonda drives her to work everyday. Rhonda test drove the 4Dr and hated the turning radius.
We have the 4 door because we needed the room.
We went from an XJ to a KJ to the JK Unlimited, each a step up in size but all Jeeps and all capable on and off road. The JK is our daily driver that gets to see dirt on occasion.
We are a family of three and I can pack up the JK for a week vacation or camping with room to spare. If the extra space is not important to you, go with the 2 door. Either way you won't be disappointed.

1.) As the owner of a 4 door, I would say egress is the biggest advantage the Unlimited has over the 2-door.
2.) The 2-door probably doesn't have the squeaky 3-piece top. But you could get the Bestop hardtop that has only 2 pieces for the 4 door.
3.) Storage is dramatically better in the 4 door.
4.) Wheelbase on the 4 door has better highway riding manners.
5.) 2 door has a much tighter turning radius, which is great on tight trails.
6.) The 2 door is about 225 pounds lighter, and probably gets better MPG and power from the crappy 3.8L V6.
7.) Unless you're in a monastary, you'll probably wind up with extra people at some point. Being able to keep a Jeep well past the family years = priceless.
I would recommend getting the 4.10 gears and rear locker in whatever you get!
The only way I'm ever selling mine is for another Jeep Wrangler Unlimited (CRD in the US!).

That is what we did.
