2012 Wrangler information thread
They already started with 2011 model year and increase each year until 2015, when the corporate average across all vehicles in a manufacturer is 31.6 and light trucks are almost 29. You can see that there is some major work to be done. Wrangler must get significantly more efficient - no way around it. The redesign will be more aerodynamic, use high tech diesel and gas, maybe partial electric, and probably be lighter as well. We live in interesting times.
You should see the CAFE proposal for 2017-2025!

You have to figure it would be around there. 7 years is a long time to go with a model w/o major revisions anymore. Who knows though since the Wrangler doesn't have any real competition with the Defender having depareted the market. There is nothing as profitable as getting extra years out of your tooling and design. If no competition is pushing you to improve, they may hang on to the JK even longer.
As I understand it, by 2016 the fleet average needs to be 35.5mpg, which roughly equates to 30mpg for light trucks and 39mpg for cars. This is, I beleive, the main reason for Jeep to have the Compass & Patriot as they need vehicles that can help raise that average as the Wrangler & Grand Cherokee will be hard to get to that 30mpg range without major changes. I think the Liberty will end up around the 35mpg range.
I persoanlly would like to see a Diesel Hybrid and screw 30mpg, let's go with 40mpg's

The Ranger is gone in the US and the 2012 Ranger is totally redesigned this year for every other market.

I to will purchase a 2012 wrangler. I feel sorry for you fools ordering now. When you walk into a dealership and order a vehicle that nobody has seen or driven you have "will purchase at any cost" written accross your forehead. I shall wait for a test drive, more colors, and less clues to my enthusiasm.
The success of the wrangler isn't from the wheelers. It's from the soccer mom's/dad's. And I would bet big money that 80% or more have never taken their doors off, and only occasionally lower the top. There's a bunch of the JKs in town and so far I'm the only one that's been topless and doorless (there's been a couple TJs that have been doorless OR topless). I haven't even seen another JK with the top down yet, and we've had days in the low/mid 20s.
Any other company that designs a vehicle just for people to wheel isn't going to have the success the Wrangler did unless it also appeals to the soccer moms/dads as well. In fact I doubt any company would produce a vehicle just for the small niche market that wheelers represent - and don't kid yourself, it is a niche market.
