In New York State, volunteer firemen use blue lights. All other emergency vehicles use red lights.

Those lights on a Jeep deserve a ticket just on principle. They belong on a rice burner if anywhere.

Okay, I was told by more than one police officer that displaying blue or red lights is illegal flashing or not. Other colors are cool. I asked because from Christmas I had rope lights strung on my jeep (before you flame I do Santa during that time as well). One of the officers looking at it said while it had blue and red in the string it was obviously not an attempt at looking like an emergency vehicle and even if a cop wrote me a ticket the judge would most likely throw it out. Only one had a problem and he said for me to turn them off while driving if I could because they are a nuisance distraction and if not as soon as I got home to make it to where I could. I can leave them on parked but not driving. The SOB said this as I was handing him a candy cane in a parking lot because he was there trying to unlock someone's car.

I said all of that because of the fact that if I with no flashing lights just rather dull rope christmas lights can be told to turn them off because they are a nuisance what the OP has is above and beyond nuisance and he got the ticket he deserved.

BTW I intend to do the lights agian this year nuisance or not so I understand the OP's frustration however whether he know it was illegal or not he (as he and I do now) knew it might be a little distracting from the start and should accept the consequences.

I agree that even if the law is iffy on this one, those lights would be a damned distraction going down the highway.

Time to upgrade your wheels, dude!

I say at least go to court, they aren't going to make it any worse for you, as long as you don't get charged with contempt while arguing your case.
Agreed, if your slate is clean they almost always discount the fine. By the way your driving a Jeep get those silly looking off Her.

All he did was write you a citation? I'd have supported tasering a Rodney King style beat down. lol

To each his own, but man I'm surprised you don't get pointed or laughed at by all other cars on the road for that.

I do give you props for designing it and getting it to work, the ability to do something like that is far beyond me.
