The Problem.
I agree with you and see what you're saying, but what makes me wonder is why everyone feels their opinion is so valuable and needs to be heard.
No offense, but so what if you don't agree with parents buying their kids whatever they want? Did he ask you? Your view is no more "right" than the next, and stating it when not asked will surely only increase the off-topic, offensive uselessness that this thread has become.

Of course the same can be said for your response. Replying to something not directly addressed to you could easily fit into the same category.
Of course since I addressed the question first, and added my personal views last, the choice of discontinuing the read was completely up to you now wasn't it?
Anyway, I thought I was respectful in my reply.

What I struggle with is
Not sure I agree there... while you have the right to say whatever you want, posting whatever you want and blaming people who take offense for reading it is another matter.
Well, I hope you wern't unlucky enough to get stuck with one to.
If you where asking me about offroading:
I do offroad(although lately with job & family not nearly enough), i just dont rock crawl, that's why i dont really need the lower ratio transfer case. I am sure i would be fine with it, but isnt a priority to me like with some other people. I do fields, streambeds, logging roads (i dont mean the smooth ones, i mean the ones skidders used to drag logs and tops around, then they leave, ruts tops and unwanted logs all over the place.)
Some hills in the woods, and some ravines. I use my 4wd in the winter around here rather often though, so slightly higher gearing suits me better.
I have no desire for the e-disco, cuz frankly, I just dont trust it for longevity. Hanging an electric motor right down there in the center of the splash zone in a salted road environment just seems ludicrous to me. One more gizmo & it's wiring to troubleshoot. Same for the electric doors and windows, dont need 'em, dont want 'em. Manual disconnects are pretty brainless & foolproof. I guess i would use it if it was there though.
I have been in a few spots where i really think the lockers would have helped me out. I cant see waisting money on putting them in the axles i have presently. Stronger axles and lockers is the main reason in my head.
So all in all, it's about money. Am I better off to get the Rubi with the better axles & lockers and no miles, or put $3500 under what I have? basically the way I figure it it's a wash. Comes down to miles & downpayment. However that works out dictates what I will do.
Keep the Sahara. Your yearning for new vehicles will never go away, but you'll learn to keep it in check over time (don't ask me how I know this expensive lesson
). If you want lockers, get lockers, not a new Jeep.
Personally I think you should keep what you have and be happy with it. My parents were very generous and helped me get my first car. I saved everything I could, and they matched dollar for dollar what I saved. That helped me afford my 95 ZJ, my first Jeep. I loved that thing, reason being I worked my ass off from 15 till 17 to be able to afford it. It cost 8k dollars and my parents loaned me what I couldnt save to get the Jeep and I paid them a monthly payment for it. They could have easily bought it for me, but thats not the point. It taught me to work for what I want and appreciate what I have. Now you say get past the being spoiled thing, but fact of the matter is you say you find yourself wanting a rubicon...that means your not happy with what you have. Plenty of young kids would KILL to have a loaded brand new Jeep with all sorts of mods done to it, but they have to pay for what they get themselves. I'm not jealous at all, Im very happy with my old ZJ and Im thrilled with the JK I bought myself for graduating college. It just frustrates me to see people who dont appreciate the things they have. This thread is a clear example of what is wrong with the young people of the country these days...to much "what can you give me" and not enough sweat going into earning it. I'm going to stop before I get on a soapbox (if Im not already), but this kind of unappreciation just frustrates the hell out of me.
To answer your initial question though, keep your Sahara and be thankful for what you have. You could be much worse off.

I've read most of the comments on this thread. Then got bored cause most of it was the same thing over again, just in different words.
My 2cents. Your mind was already made up before you EVER even made this post, so why even? I am taken back to about a year ago (or longer) when a certain JK-forum member made a post about his Jeep and all the fancy mods and great stuff he had from his great access of money and even went on so far in the arguments to offer to post his W-2's SO everybody could see what he made and what he had. It got ugly. And I almost believe it got locked out cause of the back/forth arguments it caused on this forum.
Why does this thread remind me of that?
Gee...

I think you already made a deal and should stick to it unless your brother agrees to let you back out. But if I had the the opportunity to trade a 2 year old car for a new one straight up, I do it.
19 and going to OKC? Wow!
You're going to need some tougher skin if you want to be an air traffic controler.
