Why all the autos?
I don't mean to offend anyone of you highly outspoken individuals but.....spending time on this forum has made me notice the over abundance of automatics! I mean doesn't that go hand and hand with mall crawler and soccer mom? I have only, and would only buy manual jeeps. I just hope enough people still buy manuals so they don't get rid of the option, like so many auto makers have. It's really difficult to find a manual these days!
It's too bad the stick kicks around like a mule in a pen full of rattlesnakes when on a bouncy trail though... Jeep botched that one on the JK. If I was going to do it all over again in a '12, I would reconsider my old habits...
We mostly do rock crawling, and I prefer a manual with a 4:1 or 5:1 transfer case and 5.13, 5.38, or 5.89 gearing over an automatic.
The JK Rubi 6 speed with 5.13s or 5.38s and 4:1 transfer case fits the bill. It is way more fun and controllable than my wife's JK Rubi automatic with 5.38s--especially decending steep stuff.

You know what they say: People in glass houses sink sh-sh-ships.
I drive stick and so does my GF. She is actually the one that taught me!
I think its actually more from to drive stick. After a few month you don't even realize that you are shifting. My GF is currently looking for a new car and wants stick, its hard to find. The one sales man asked. "why would you want to drive stick?" Her response was, "so my friends can't drive my car!" He had a puzzled look on his face, guess he could not drive it either.
I just hope all you auto people out there don't kill it for those of us that like to shift. Its a good thing to know how to do. You never know when you might need it.

I took my drivers test in a manual at the age of 16. I'm now 40 and haven't had an auto ever, except for the occasional rental car. I guess I like having more control over the driving experience. Yes it's a pain during stop and go rush hours, but I can't live without it. Save our manuals!!!
Happy new year.
Happy new year.
Over here in the UK I passed my test at 17 in a manual, as that was the only trans about at the time.
Now I am over 40 we have an auto JK because that was the only JK I could find at the price I could afford and I could (would) not wait :-)
Would I have preferred a manual, yes, but that is just because its what I have been used to.
When my boys are old enough to learn, then we will get something cheap with a manual trans. Better to know both than not be able to drive a manual at all. Over here if you pass your test in an auto you can't drive a manual

I had no problem finding a manual. For me it was simple, my kids are now of driving age and the wife and I believe knowing how to drive a manual is an important life skill. My old VW Jetta is a stick (and now the car the kids use primarily), but in anticipation of it dying we got the manual in the jeep as well so we'd still have a stick when the youngest two start driving in a couple more years.
I think people in this day and age are naturally just more lazy I love manual it keeps me awake when driving it keeps me busy there is nothing like rowing through the gears whether on road or on the trail I will never own another automatic
This is actually my first automatic. I generally prefer manuals, even when having to deal with city traffic. But my reasoning is this:
-The '12 manual transmission had vague and crunchy shift gates. It also shimmied around while driving.
-The '12 automatic transmission felt solid, didn't hunt for gears too badly and the manu-matic mode actually holds gears until you change it. It doesn't change for you after a little bit.
-Even if I was inclined to get a manual, it was hard enough finding a Natural Green with an auto.
