My current 09 is a manual, but after driving a 12 with an auto transmission I think I'll wind up going that route if I do trade in for a new one. I've had my fair share of manual and auto vehicles and I can see advantages and disadvantages in both, but it really does make it easier to go off-road in an auto. Like it was said early drive easier not harder...

But at least it is in my Wrangler...

I do the same...coming from the Baltimore area to DC everyday...but, I drive a manual, kinda just got used to it, always owned one, never had the pleasure or desire to buy an auto...guess it would be nice in traffic...naaaah, I'll stick with my stick!

Auto, because it makes sense.

a conversation between two jeepers back in the 1950's;

...did you see the new 1953 model CJ? I can't believe they got rid of the oil bath air cleaner and replaced it with a paper filter. That is just blasphemy to do to our jeeps!
...Yep, I heard they are doing away with hand operated windshield wipers too. Some kind of vacuum assist job. There is even talk of heaters being installed! Must be all those "general store crawlers" having something to do with these changes

a conversation between two jeepers back in the 1970's;

...did you see Jeep is selling more CJ's with disc brakes than drum brakes!! how in the hell could they do that, must be forcing people to buy that new technology because its all the dealers will order on the CJ's these days.
....Yep, I heard they are gonna start putting 8 track radios in them as a standard option too. Must be all those "hippie concert crawlers" having something to do with these changes.

a conversation between two jeepers back in the 1990's;

......did you see Jeeps are coming with square headlights now? Everyone knows Jeeps are supposed to have round headlights!
....Yep, I heard they are even calling one a Sahara edition, it will come fully loaded like a luxury car. Must be all those "yuppie crawlers" wanting them all decked out.

....and you get the idea. There is always someone who thinks they are some kind of "purist" driving the latest new model. If you are really a purist go buy one of the below and daily drive it
-Bantam BRC 40
-Ford Pygmy
-Willys MB

Most of racing competitions today use auto/robotized transmissions, including F1.
'tis true. I still have two Mustangs that are 5 speed TKO Tremecs - for old times sake.

Since my left knee was destroyed while I was in the military it is a little hard to work a cutch now that I'm 50+. So I drive an automatic and it's even a JK which makes it even less of Jeep from what I've been told from other Jeep "experts".
Live and let live and just enjoy.

I don't think the option is going anywhere but the 2wd vesion has which never made sence to me.

my reasons
daily driver
easier to wheel when I get the chance
last time I had stick, I replaced 3 clutch plates in 5 years

I miss it and I don't.
