Why all the autos?
The last Jeep Jamboree I was at in South Dakota, on the black trail there were only 2 Jeeps that were standards. My dad's and another Canadian.
The trail guides said we were crazy and that auto is what should be used for offloading. I think he is the crazy one.

Based off the majority of these responses, going manual or auto is solely based on preference. I prefer manual, but have considered auto bc mine is a daily driver. I also wouldn't mind having a rubicrawler.
When it comes down to it, I was taught how to wheel in a manual Jeep and wouldn't have it any other way.

I'm what most of you guys would call an "old timer". I've had a few jeeps in my years and they've all been manuals. Lot's of "fun" for sure. Originally I bought my 2dr auto because I was having knee problems. But even now with my knees doing good, I don't regret my choosing the auto in the least. I was HUGELY impressed with the auto the first time I wheeled her. I know MANY hard core offroaders that would ONLY have an auto to wheel in.
BTW....there is a reason all ATVs are autos..........Something to think about.

I have an auto because I'm missing my left leg above the knee. Hard to drive a manual transmission without the possibility of causing an accident. Other wise I would have got a manual trans. I know the old addage that its stick or nothing but people need to realize that there are people with different circumstances out there. Having an auto doesn't always mean mall crawler or soccer mom.

I like my 6 speed, but I drive mostly freeway, but even in town I don't mind shifting. I too hope the manual is not eliminated. I'm already afraid of the 2 door being a collectors item.
i read a few wife / girlfriend issues...why not teach them? if it's going to be your vehicle and you really want a manual, and you're going to be making the payments on it, you choose what you want, everything else is secondary. if you really wanted an automatic, it's choice, no need to point the finger at them for your choice? my wife can drive manual, but it's still my jeep
maybe if i got an auto she'd borrow it less?

My dealership: "We don't order manuals because we can't give them away. Nobody wants them."
So I took what they had on the lot because they gave me a good deal. There are times I wish I had gotten stick again, but then I read the 764 threads on issues with manuals trannys and it makes my auto. OK again. Apparently the JK manual is junk. Plus, after owning both I must say that offroad, the automatic rules.
