Grill Mod
I have started using this tape for many projects since I discovered it while repairing trim on a 78 chevy truck. Thousands of housold uses.
just finished my grill mod. my first mod ever very easy thanks to the great directions in this thread. i went the gutter guard way. seven pieces , epoxy
glue, zip ties, mounting blocks. my mounts were 1X1 but weirdly did not fit. i cut them so they fit. i managed to get black blocks and black ties. i am quite happy. next i got to drill my mirrors. thanks guys.

TEMP BRA is a spray can more like ruberized paint ,that you spray on your grill
to protect against rocks and stu from highway or trail damage ,,then it can be peeled of and redone
it can last for some time ,i have read this in other forums

WELL my grill mod fell apart...so i pulled it out and im goin to re-do it.....first off i bought stick on tabs from home depot and the only size they had was 1x1 which were too big for the inside grill, i shaved a bit off both sides to make it stick, but it seems like almost half of them came off....but funny, the ones that didnt fall off i cant pull them off....they are stuck GOOD
and feeling the ones that came off, they are not sticky at all anymore
SO i ordered the .75 ones from Mcmaster and try again this weekand.....i cleaned with alcohol so its not that.....my buddy says i wash the jeep too much

I'm about to do this mod, and I realized that you can easily allow the screen to fit the curves of the grill so it won't bend it. All you have to do is relieve the stress of the screen...
You can do this by snipping a few of the metal-pieces between the grill-slots, and then you will notice that it allows the screen to relax against the contour of the grill. I did this because I was concerned with snapping my plastic grill, if it ever was hit by anything (tree-branch, snowball, etc.). It seemed to me that all that stored-energy in the bent screen could eventually cause the grill to crack...

I did this mod with plastic weld from the start and have not had a problem yet. I think epoxy will always last longer and have a better bond than the stickers.
This is a great mod! I'm planning on going the expanded aluminum route, only because I can get a discount through my employer and I like the idea of a single piece of metal to work with.
Curious though... Anyone found some sort of place on the factory grille to use a mechanical fastener to attach whatever form of grille material they've decided on? Suspect there isn't any place good, but was hoping to find something better than ziptie blocks with their inherent adhesive issues. Think I can solve that problem, but would like to easily remove my grille reinforcement for easily cleaning, repainting and/or replacement. And, I do know how brittle zip ties can get with age.
Haven't taken mine off to look around yet, but love that DrMcNinja took his grille to bed.

Suspect once I have mine off, I'll be sleeping with it too!
