Yeah I was afraid of that, oh well it looks cool for now, and it will help keep the leaves out of there I will probably switch it to the aluminum or metal stuff later anyway.

don't forget the little tie block things, they have sticky tape on one side and holes in them to anchor the zip ties down.

I may have been ambiguous. All that was left of the dragonflies was debris. No problem with the plastic.

oh, well that's pretty cool then! I thought you meant it tore up the plastic, so that is not too bad. Thanks for clearing that up!

OK, now that this thread is over a month old, how many of you have had the ty-wrap blocks come loose? The adhesive generally does not fair well when exposed to the elements, this is the only thing that keeps me from doing this mod. I have a ton of these things, but they don't stick well when exposed to cold/hot/wet/dry cycles.

I have access to some fairly exotic (read: not for the general public, you'll stick your eyes shut, kid ) aerospace adhesives, does anyone know what the grill is made of exactly? I'm thinking I could bond the bases down permanently with the right stuff, just need to know what the grill is made of.

Thanks

Some of mine have already come loose. I was thinking about using JB Weld to attach those burgers. I bought it in the first place but didn't use it. I cleaned the plastic with alchohol before using the double side tape on the ty-wrap blocks. Too much pull on them. I did use the seven different metal pieces instead of a single piece. Don't know if this increases the stress on the individual pieces. I snugged them down pretty good to keep the metal piece flush with the plastic grill. I plan on removing and reinstalling some time this week. Hope it works better because I really like the look of the mod.

I would suggest when you do it over, before using alcohol, use fine sandpaper to give the glue something to hold on too. I sanded first, stuck the pads to the grill and then used Gorilla glue over each pad. Guaranteed, when it gets hot, these pads by them self, will come loose.
