I didn't do it this way, but I wish I had. I had to wrestle it back together and really lean on the bumper to get it to fit. Whoops.

First Mod to my Jeep! Took me about 3 hours including a trip to Home Depot. I used the heat gun and utility knife technique. Thanks to all in this thread - It really helped.

Hey guys i'm from Australia, I have a JK Rubicon, and unfortunately for us when the Rubi is exported to Oz - it does not come with front tow hooks!! And we get the uglier front bumper too to make things worse! Anyhow, I managed to get some front tow hooks through EBay, and managed to install them myself, no problems. One thing i'm not sure on, did anyone use a torque wrench to tighten the bolts on their tow hooks?

I'm being cautious I guess, as we're using rated tow hooks, and I want to be sure it's tightened properly. For now they're tightened at 75lb torque, anyone have any advice/recommendations?

Apart from that, due to the difference with our bumper, we don't get the indented spot for the tow hooks, so I had to make a larger cut in order to get a shackle onto the hooks...still looks okay though.

I should be getting my hooks soon. Has anyone tried heating a knife up with a propane torch? Works like a charm. I might go that way when I get mine.

Just going to chime in here, as I ran into a problem putting my Pure Jeep front bumper on my X model.

If you are adding tow hooks to a model that does not come with tow hooks (presumably an X), it does NOT come with a part called something like "tow hook reinforcement."

They are rectangular steel plates that taper slightler near the top and are about 1/8 inch thick.

If you try to use tow hooks on an X without these reinforcement plates, you might have a problem. So wanted to chime in. I have no experience either way, but for about $15, I personally wouldn't want to take the chance.

I can track down a part number if you need it.

I'll be installing the MOPAR tow hooks on my bumper in about a week or two. Has anybody run into this same issue? Has anybody used their tow hooks WITHOUT this reinforcement?

I've never heard of this extra reinforcement, mine doesn't have it and I've pulled out a stuck Chevy Tahoe (darn heavy) without a problem.

I would think that most applications you would be just fine without the reinforcement. For $15 or so, I personally wouldn't take the chance. But I doubt most people who put the tow hooks on aftermarket even know about this part. My dealership didn't.

Whichever route you take, I hope you never run into a problem. But it is the kind of thing that I would not want to find out AFTER I already installed them. At least now you can decide knowing the extra info.
