My light solution
I just didn't want the hassle of an on-off switch. If you put resisters in, you might be able to tone down an LED to low enough, but my red ones aren't bright in person. Those photos are something like a 5 second exposure because it is so dark.
I ran blue lights in the foot wells and one in the same location of the console as the original poster. I did put a switch in the center console facing forward that lights up blue so when i flip it on, it iluminates the cup holders well. I also made it dimable. Totally worth the time and the money for the cool factor.
KMB,
You mention the orange and white from the HVAC switch panel....question.
This refers to the location of the wiring bundle - correct, and not that the orange and white are part of the HVAC circuitry?
Reading that these are dim-able from the stock rotary dimming switch; I'm assuming that the reference the HVAC switch is that locations back lighting.

When you have the front of the consol tilted forward you will see a large bundle of wires that plug into the back of the HVAC switches. Unclip it from the switches and look for the orange wire with the grey stripe. This is the wire you will connect the positive side of the strip to. Once you make that connection reconnect the bundle to the switch and make your ground connection. The light will then dim with the stock dimmer along with the rest of the dash lights. Follow the pictures and it should all make sense.
NOTE: The longer the LED strip the more light it will have. I used a strip with 9 LEDs. I would advise the 3 or 6 LED strip.

Already have the 9 inch ordered (I'll do this in a couple of weeks) perhaps I can overcoat them mildly to soften the sharpness.
Excellent modification!
