I know this is an older write up now but looks great. I bought the lights today and plan on doing it this weekend.

This looks sweet. One question, how do you go about running everything from the dome light? Do you make the connection at the dome light and run the wires down everywhere, or can you catch the wires anywhere?

(this for lights under the steering wheel etc.)

Thanks.

The dome light connection is in the wiring harness, on the front passenger floor area. But for dash lighting, the dome isn't a good choice since the dome has to be on.

Here's a footwell lighting mod I just did for that application.

Good luck

great write up & pics. after reading it, I went to Advance Auto (closer to house) but they had no LED's, in fact had a box in the back room with their remaining inventory to be shipped back to HQ. Apparently they didn't move enought to keep the shelf space open.

Then I headed to AutoZone where I picked up a pair of blue 12" and 4" LED lites. These were flexible and came with a two stick tape already adhered the length of the LED. (Chose blue to match existing dash / radio LCD colors) These lites were configured such that you can cut them into smaller lengths per pre-marked increments. You simply use scissors to cut them to your size.

I cut one 12" LED into a 10" length and put that in the center dash lower location. I put a 4" LED above the driver and passenger floorwell. The hardest part of the MOD was to get the dash panel off, but that was more or less because I was so timid being scared to damage or break it.

Even my 13 yr old thinks its a super cool look. I do need to tone the brightness down a bit as even in the lowest dim setting, the LED's light up things enough to cause a reflection in the front windshield which does distract/obscure your view somewhat. I'll try a previous posters suggestion of using a marker to help dim it a bit.

Again, thanks to the OP and those that came behind with helpful tidbits.

Did it today in red, with a 4" led strip ($15 at autozone). Took 20 minutes to do and works just as described. Absolutely perfect. And it looks sooooo cool! The red LED's give just enough ambient light in the cockpit.

finally got around to doing this mod myself and very happy with it...bought the lights forever ago...i did mine in the blue 3 light strip from streetglo (same brand as original poster) and it's the perfect amount of light and dimmable...very cool...i went through the additional step of running it through a switch though as well so on long trips i have the option of turning it off completely and turning it back on as needed....besides who doesn't want an added switch in their jeep given the opportunity...

The saga continues. I now have 11 red LEDs individually in the dash, cupholder, and headliner, and 2 8-LED festoon bulbs in the dome lights. I also have 8 red LEDs as rock lights.

I wonder if it is safe to run 2 separate footwell lights (one for each side) on that one single Orange/Grey wire with vampire clips. I would like to install some footwell lights for both sides in blue, since I am deaf and the dome light is just TOO bright to leave on while driving at night.

My WRX had a light set up that came on with the headlights and were dimmable. It was PERFECT. And it was 37 bucks.

Just to be clear, the orange/grey wire is the power wire and the black wire that goes to the power adaptor is the ground wire?
