Yep, as you said. I can't imagine that the light strip would draw that much, but you might want to check it. My dome light wire is powering two strips as well as 4 individual LEDs up top, and my dash orange/grey wire is powering 7 LEDs.

So it IS the orange wire with the grey stripe that provides the power and the black one from the power adaptor that provides the ground?

Right now I have a cobra detector in the power adaptor. Would this make any adverse effect? Or should I tap into the other power adaptor's wire due to it not being used at all (the constantly on adaptor)

I wouldn't use the orange and grey one for your cobra, as it is the dimmable wire, and your cobra might now work with less current if you actually dim the lights.

I did this mod using a 3 LED strip (red). Puts out the perfect amount of light IMHO.

I like! Thanks.

Default my install...

I followed this writeup. I used a 2 pack of 12 red led's from autozone. On the dash I put a strip of 12 leds back in the groove and heat shrunk the visible wire and tucked it behind the panel -- I can't see it from the seats. In each footwell I put a strip of 6 leds (I had to do some soldering on one end, but, this lets me get by with 1 pack). The footwell pieces were put on the metal frame part which nicely gives a washout effect. I was going to do the footwells with the dome light, but, the red is so dim down there, I don't think you'd even notice it with the bright dome light.

note: the 12 leds may be a bit much and I may have to sharpie out a couple, time will tell.

I tapped into the dimmer wire for (+) and ran a wire back to a ground screw under the glovebox. I tried to tap into the power outlet, but, that wire was a bit thicker than the other wires. By running back to the ground screw, you'd only have to tap into 1 factory wire which I like. I just wish I'd done that before nicking the insulation on the power outlet -- I taped it back up, but, it bothered me a bit!

Here is a pic. I really like it. I was debating between blue, green and red. I think they all look cool. Since the jeep is red, I went with red. I don't know if this low volume of light would hinder night vision in any color.

$17 for the lights
$20 some for the wiring, butt connectors, wiretaps, heatshrink, etc. I didn't have any electrical kit that I could use for this, so, had to buy all. I now have stuff for the next project.

My WRX had a light set up that came on with the headlights and were dimmable. It was PERFECT. And it was 37 bucks.

Just to be clear, the orange/grey wire is the power wire and the black wire that goes to the power adaptor is the ground wire?
Yes, I did it. i ran blue lights on dash, one under each foot area on both passenger and driver. i even added it under the back bench all on a dimmer swith. LOOKS AWESOME!!!

Looks great. Hope it is as easy as it sounds. I have the detonator yellow and am trying to decide on the color of leds. Has anyone tried the yellow LED strips?

thanks

Removed the "thumbs" part of your picture links, and they become larger again.
