2012 install went well yesterday. Thanks to all who posted previously was a great help. I went with a 1x6 option and 1/2 plywood. Plenty strong for my needs. Was able to keep the storage tub liner from factory for clean look inside. If people need measurements around sub for tight fit I am happy to share.

Still haven't figured out locking yet.

 

I have to say, this is one of my favorite mods. I like that fact that my cooler now sits flat and does not move around so much. Also, I only have four inches of storage under the floor, but it is amazing how much junk in I can pack into that four inches.

 

So I have been following this thread for a while now and I knew from the 1st minute I was going to do it.

Well I was bored this Sunday and went for it.

I altered it a bit

I used 1x8s (it's a little tall 1x6s would have worked nice) I may change in the end.
I used the 3/4 in Plywood top
I still have not mounted it yet but have the rivnuts and ready to go

I started at Harbor Freight ended up at Home Depot.
Overall I spent about $200 but some of that was tools so in supplies I think about $110

I chose to remove the Sub Woofer (not really needed)

Just a few tips
Don't trust the Home Depot Guy at the saw (luckly the pieces were still big enough)
When cutting MAKE SURE you cut on the same side of your measurement mark for each cut (I know basic but makes a difference if you aren't focused)
Pre-drill the holes
Check and recheck everything fits before putting it together

 

So everything is together and fits perfect
I used my excess Plywood a 1x8s to make putting the top on a little easier
I added a little hinge support to help when the top pieces are extended so they won't press directly on the box hinges
They would have been a little cleaner but I couldn't find my Chisels and used a screw driver (a nice router would work as well)

 

Checkes to make sure everything fit
Cut the top pieces left a 3/4 in gap to fit carpeting.
Pre painted the wood not getting covered by carpeting.
CARPETING SUCKS!!!!!!!
The Glue thing was messy. I finally determined this is not my forte. Soo I screwed it.
I glued the tops of each piece as that is the most used but used 3/4 in Flat Heads to do the rest.
(I still have Glue on my hands)
It all came together nicely

Like I said I haven't mounted it yet and I still need to figure out how to lock it but... I really like it!!!!

I found some carpet that better matches the jeep carpet so I redid mine.

I love my storage are. I keep a tent, sleeping matt, jacket, pillow, tow tackle, flares, hammer, stringer with long rope and what not in mine. I put black carpet on mine that is close to the color of the stock carpet. So when the top is off, people do not notice.

 

Did this today. Took a little different spin. I wanted to be able to use the factory storage area. With mine being a 2011 with infinity sound I didn't have as much room to work with. I will probably add the extensions later but ran out of daylight.
