Is there a good thread or post where I can read up about all there is too know about axles....I am trying to educate myself.......I am deploying in 4 months and am gonna go ahead and replace at a minimum my front axle...want to read up and learn about all there is too know and am not really finding any good posts.....
Just wondering if any of you guys up around Tulsa town have run into any banana spiders (also known as wandering spiders)? Normally confined to banana plantations in the tropics (which Tulsa decidedly is not!), they've been found in Tulsa nonetheless. You'll have a rather interesting side-affect if you're bitten ...

Axles are such complex things that I don't know that there really is one thread (much less post) that has everything to know. I mean, there are issues of open/LSD/locked diff's, stock/aftermarket axles/ball joints/control arms/driveshafts/diff covers/brake calipers, what lube, and on and on. If you want something that's pretty much guaranteed to be excellent without breaking the bank, I think all you need to know is Prorock 44 (Prorock 60 if your lifestyle is "filthy rich"). If the thought of spending $5K per axle is not daunting, then just study up on them. If you'd like to keep your expenses a bit lower, then you'll be best off to skulk around a variety of threads to learn about the different facets, and different viewpoints based on how a vehicle is used and budgetary constraints. If you have a more specific question, please ask on and I'm certain one of us will point you in the right direction.
Yeah I have read alot about them....I actually was really trying to get alot more info about lockers...I personally dont have lockers now and Was reading alot about ARB.. but really not sure how much I really need a locker.........I also was trying to figure out if you dont lock the axle are the only shafts available with ujoints or are you able to get a kit that removes this known week point in the axle....

Well got the jeep back from the dealer and DW seems to be gone. They replaced the steering damper and bracket. Also replaced two of the brake lines and trimmed inner liners.
Said my front pinion seal was leaking and drivers side rear axle seal. Not too bad though. I didn't want them messing with them yet since i just had the gears installed and didn't know if it would void the warranty.

I haven't heard anything official yet.. I guess I need to just take the Jeep in and have them do that and the fender liner trim.

In the case of the u-joints, once those are out of the picture, the next weakest link is the R&P (sometimes also the carrier). IMHO this is NOT what you want being your weakest link. If one of these parts fails the repair bill is easily double or triple that of a u-joint failure. And, unlike a u-joint failure, an R&P failure will leave you needing a tow home.
