I actually took both tail lights out. Just something less to bang up against and when you have to stick the 1/4" wrench in there later to tighten up the hinge bolts, you'll thank yourself :-)

Yeah, I had both of them out at first, and it's what the instructions seemed to indicate... however, I was trying to put it back together so I could run to Lowe's and I noticed that the OR-Fab brace (I guess the thing the tire carrier itself hinges from) was too close to the passenger tail light for me to successfully reinstall that tail light. I had to loosen everything up and slide it all over to the driver's side to make room for the tail light. When I did, I just decided to leave it attached.

I may take it off again if it makes the job easier, but I did find it strange the instruction didn't even hint that I might want to watch out for the passenger side tail light and to make sure to leave it enough room

Manoj, what are you doing for your 3rd brake light?

Also, do you have pictures of your carrier latch, I want to make sure I've got this right. OR-Fab's instructions say "assemble latch", I guess it made sense to the instructions writer , but if I knew how to assembly this darn thing I dont think I'd be reading the instructions

Thanks

What 3rd Brake light?

Hmm... Let me see if I have any close ups of the latch

This is the only one I have of the latch:

Thanks, that works for the latch. It came flipped, and I had to undue the shiney part to flip it around the way you have it... I was second guessing myself.

On te brake light, have you ever gotten pulled over for not having one? I was thinking about buying the or-fab brake light kit...

Oh, yeah, I am still outside (in the cold rain) working on the damn thing :-(

Nope... 3rd Brake light is not mandatory - it's just one of those "nice to have" feature - but seeing as most of our JKs are lifted up, most smaller vehicles behind us would never see it behind the huge spare tires anyway. You could do the DIY 3rd Brake lights that some people have done on the forum, or get the kit from OR-Fab. Me personally, it doesn't bother me and hasn't bothered any of the cops here either.

Dang... is it raining there?

I haven't had a 3rd brake light in a long time , if I did I would have to mount it underneath the spare for people to see it

and yes it is pouring down rain here

So, is there no latch pin for the latch? Looking at it closer, you see a hole near the powder coated portion of the latch, almost like a pin was supposed to slide down into that hole to make sure it didn't unlatch... I didn't see a latch pin, and looking at your picture I don't see one either. odd

Also, what is the "grinding may be needed" step on the lower bump stop alignment to prevent the tailgate from denting?

Does you tailgate close freely? I guess my gate still isn't aligned right, because it needs to be slamed shut

I must say, this OR-Fab tire carrier sucks already. I haven't even finished installing it yet and I want to send it back
