AEV tire carrier and stock bumper. Has anyone done this yet?
Where did you get it and what did you pay?
Pics?
Don't have any pics yet, but I'll try to grab one here at lunch with my phone. I must say it is as nice as advertised..
The AEV design allows the weight of the tire to be removed from the tailgate and transferred to the swing arm and frame rail. The tailgate just supports the saddle block which is used to help stabilize the carrier arm when closed.
The rear carrier costs $699.00 and will ship via truck freight which can add at least $100.00. If you can find it for less than $800.00, I'd say go for it.

Rear visibility with a 35"+ tire is a bit dodgy. I solved the problem by mounting a camera (infrared for driving at night) and Rigid D2 Dually LED floods. I havent added the brake light back yet - and not sure I will. Here in Canada the law requires car manufactures to import new vehicles with the 3rd brake light. It does not require the owner to have one. So if you take it off they're cool with it.
Is the AEV the only tire carrier that allows u to use the stock bumper as well? I figured there would be more since the concept of how it goes on sounds so simple. Does anyone know of any others that can do the same?
It's the only one I've heard of. I've got the bumper and the carrier so I'm not sure what is involved in the install of just the carrier. I suspect its fairly involved given the weight it is meant to hold. As all the best things do, it only looks simple after it's done. ;-)
