Well my brain hurts. NOT because I cant use my powers as a E-
mechanic, but because this shop you go to is proving totally useless in solving this problem. Some facts are missing,I dont know or care for that matter, what they are, but the long and the short of it is you are getting your dick yanked. The dealership, same deal.

I'm sure they are 'Great guys" but they cant solve your problem.
Move on to another shop.

Without visually and physically being there it's near impossible to diagnose.

I'm not flaming your thread fellow jeeper, I sincerely hope this gets figured out and you get back out wheeling in no time flat.

When I finished my third year in auto service technology, the senior tech I worked under, said "don't be afraid to use asecond set of eyes to find the problem"

If I cant figure it out find someone who can.....

Take care fella, and I wish you luck!

I think it may be something in the axle too. you said before "no ds, no noise", right? This means that it has to be from the drive shaft to the wheels. You got the same noise with a different ds, so this brings it from the pinion to the wheels.

Has anyone checked the pinion gear/bearing/preload?

Update: Emailed Richmond about the lockright, got an answer back from Johnny Brown " At this time we are not making a lockright for the "next gen"D-30. I just got the email this evening and sent another one to him about the shop talking to Richmond and Richmond saying alot of JK's were having no problem with it. I asked for some comments and insight on this from him and gave him a basic rundown on what's going on with my JK. Waiting for a response, will post it tommorow with my findings. This is about to get real interesting.......

Thanks BP, If it weren't for Redneck and you and some of the others, I probably wouldn't have thought of contacting Richmond myself.

Update: Seems Richmond now wants to give me the runaround. They said if the tolerances and clearance were set right, then the locker shouldn't be the prob. But yet they don't offer a locker specifically for the "next gen D-30"
I sent them back another email stating that either it does work or not, there's no should or could be about it. If it worked , why don't they sell that one for the JK and why are they in process of developing a new one for the jk d30 application. Will post when I know more.

Another update: Called shop this evening to see what was going on, secretary said owner was in a meeting, he'd call back. An hour later I called, shop was closed. Richmond hasn't returned my last email questioning how a locker for the jk is supposed to work when they have not made one for it yet.

I know this is going to sound like something you cant do but I would grab the jeep back and put some marking compound on the gear and check it your self and if you dont know how to read the gears take a pic and post them up that would be a good way to tell if its just the set up of the gears. WHich company gears did you get richmond also

richmond gears are known around my area for making nousie going down the road
