I was charged $95 but my buddy went to a different dealer and they didn't charge him because there is a service bulletin out for 2007s. If you have a 2008-11 you don't have to update PCM and the disable process is in your users manual.

Ah, I missed this post before. It appears to be the same issue as the 2012.

Thanks to 07Rubisteve for his repost of the instructions a couple years ago! They really helped convince me I could and should do this easy and cheap mod! I also liked his descrete mount under the dash panel and was convinced that's what I would have to do as well.

I installed my own "play mode" switch tonight after work. I've been looking for a plate to mount under the dash panel for the last week or two telling myself I was going to do this. The most expensive part was a switch from RadioShack for about $2. I finally found a perfect plate to mount into by using a basic metal junction box cover with the 1" hole punched out of the center ($0.59 at the hardware store).

The wire to cut was easy for me to find (purple with straight light-blue line). Total install took me maybe an hour but a lot of that was because I initially sheared off the two mounting screws I initially tried to use, then had to drill them out and find more suitable hardware (and broke two drill bits in the process). The biggest pain in the ass of the install is doing everything on the top side of the footwell. Not much room to work down there...

I'll try to post up some pictures of the final product tomorrow.

Default ESP Kill Switch Photo

Here is the installed switch. I notice in the photos the mounting plate is a little crooked, but it was tough to see to work on and I know I'll never really look at it. I think the install is very clean, and very discrete.

Why not just do the programming sequence and cut off ESP without needing a switch. It's easy and you can cut it back on if you need by repeating the steps.

I did choose the switch. It's kind of a pain in the ass to mount where I did but I could've had it mounted and done in one of the plastic trim pieces in under 30 min. But as BadTrainDriver says, it's so much quicker now. The biggest benefit is that I can just turn off and restart the Jeep to reset everything back to stock (no wheel dance). Also the disable takes a flick of a switch to turn off, which can be a huge benefit when you're in a tricky spot and need it NOW.

So when you turn the switch off, it cuts everything off at that instant. But to turn it back on, do you have to restart after the switch is on? I want to be able to mess around a little on the roads while driving to work so I would like to just quickly turn it on and off.

As soon as you interrupt the current, everything turns off and remains off until 1. current is restored and 2. the engine is turned off and back on. There is not a way to turn it on and off while driving.
