I went to a local fire extinguisher store here and bought a 2lb "used" extinguisher for about 20 bucks. This thing was brand new cause most extinguishers dont get used more than once. It is a very good and all aluminum ext with aluminum head and refilable. Local place charges 7 bucks for refils. Dont go out and buy a new one cause you will either spend too much on a cheap one that is not refilable or spend too much on a good one. New aluminum ones go for 60 bucks a piece. Find a local ext. store near you and ask for a used one. You will not regret it and they will fill it for you. (If you are a firefighter they might give you a discount too. I went in my uniform after shift and got mine

Great info Alonzo. Where in your Jeep did you mount your extinguisher and why did you put it there?

You can post the link. I just cannot be a "clickable" link. If you choose another color besides the default, it will not be clickable.

FM-200 agent for most applications. FM-200, the most accepted Halon replacement agent on the market today, delivers optimum extinguishing performance in just seconds, operating primarily by removing heat energy from fire and inhibiting combustion. Since the agent is a clean, gaseous vapour, there is no messy cleanup of powder, foam or residue. Thus, sensitive equipment including radar, electronics and the engine itself are not damaged and can be fully operational following its use.

YOU, YOUR BOAT (or jeep ), AND THE ENVIRONMENT
FM-200 is extremely safe for people and equipment. More than 70 industry toxicity tests verify its safe use in occupied areas. FM-200 is recognized as the premier Halon replacement and it enjoys world-wide acceptability and approval. Designed to provide non-toxic and non-corrosive protection, the agent is non-ozone depleting. FM-200 is not subject to any environmental phase-out schedule and the agent has received approvals from environmental authorities around the world.

STEPS TO SELECT THE CORRECT SYSTEM
• Determine the volume of the engine compartment to be protected.
• select the model that meets or exceeds the calculated volume of the engine compartment. Up to 6.8 m3 there is a choice of either an FG or FD cylinder. FG are lighter Aluminum cylinders that are not refillable. FD are steel cylinders that are refillable in the event of a discharge.
• Select an automatic 'A' designation or manual/automatic 'M' designation. A man/auto cylinder needs a cable for manual activation. See Accessories page.
• We strongly recommend that all diesel engined boats should fit an automatic engine shutdown system to avoid the FM200 being dispersed.
Note: This item can only be shipped by Ground Services. Please plan delivery times accordingly.
Note: This item cannot be shipped outside the U.S.
Note: This item is classified as Hazardous for shipping purposes. A $30.00 per shipped carton handling fee charged by the couriers (UPS/FedEx) will be automatically added to the order. Please email us if you have any questions.

This is just a little over the top. I just cant imagine having a halon system on my jeep. Im a firefighter and not even our fire trucks have this thing. Ive seen this type of stuff at restaurants over the burners and cooking area during fire inspections. If you decide to get this system you could get a sales permit and sell hot dogs out of your jeep at the trails and be in code.

I know the national forests in VA require all vehicles to have a class ABC extinguisher, along with a bunch of other stuff. They don't care where it is, as long as it's in the vehicle. I have one jammed in between the roll bar and bed rail in the back of the jeep, it fits nice and snug and no need to worry about messing with straps or anything ( probably not the safest place to have it, but it works).

mounted the ext on the rear passenger side roll bar with a rugged ridge ext holder. Looks really good with the tops off and out of the way yet easy to get to and remove. This is all you need for a jeep. Thinking about putting a mag light on the opposite side.

This may be a stupid question, but how secure are the extinguishers in the various mountings (e.g. roll bar, seat frame, etc.) in the event of an accident? You certainly wouldn't want this thing to become a projectile.

Mine doesn't move any when I kick it real hard. Down low, even if it becomes a projectile, it won't hit my head. Can't say the same for rollbar mounts, especially if at an angle.
