I guess the only way to know that for sure would be for somebody to actually have proof that it did. I don't know of anybody that has as I'm sure it would be pretty hard to get. I guess if somebody had real bad pinging and just drove it like that, then sure, that would probably do in an engine pretty quick.

Got my Superchips last weekend on a trip to the states and finally had time to install it on Friday. So far I LOVE it! No more stupid beeping from the TPMS, speedo is back to normal. I am running the 87 tune and so far no pinging (I assume I would hear this "pinging" while driving?) and since I'm in Canada I also assume I am using winter gas... I have an auto and the shift points are much improved. I will keep ppl updated if I have any problems. But so far its awesome!

I want to do the 87 octane tune....but am I wasting my time and money to do this now? Anyone live in the winter gas region, and have no pinging?
Am I better off just adjusting the stock tune? I believe I can set my skinny pedal (gas pedal), so that it gets rid of the lag when you step on it.....Is this correct?
I've done so much reading and there are so many opinions, it's hard to tell what works best.....
I run the 87 tune during the winter months and haven't had an issue with it. After installing any tune, I drive it a little hard, turning it off at stop lights or stop signs to hasten the PCM relearn. A couple freeway on ramp blasts helps as well and alongside getting the key cycles in, never a problem.

Keep in mind any time you install a tune, you basically reset the PCM and it has no learned parameters. The PCM is starting anew and hasn't backed off the timing at all via the knock sensors. An engine makes the most power on the verge of pre-ignition and the PCM relearn process is what assures you of safely making as much power as possible.

Ok, I have a question for all you Superchips users. I PMed Scott@superchips last week and still have not received an answer so now I need your help. So this is what I sent...

Quote:Me
I have a couple questions. I have considered getting one the Flashpack setup that is offered from you guys at Superchips. I have a 2010 Rubicon and I just hit 12,000 miles. I have noticed one thing since this was brand new...while merging onto the highway @ WOT, I notice that once my jeep hits 3rd gear and is climbing towards 80mph, it automatically seems to de-tune and my rpms fall off, pretty much staying under 4,000 rpms.

Is this a "governor" type feature that is setup from the factory? Does this have to do with a "top speed limiter" or is it more of a setting that affects how many rpms are allowed depending on what gear I'm in?

Final question...I want my jeep to keep climbing up in the rpm's while at WOT...I mean, I'm running stock tires and 4.10 gears, this thing should not be limited to what it does @ WOT around 80mph lol. So, will your superchips turner help me out here?

PS..Ive tried searching the forum here and haven't found any results. Thanks again~

So can anyone answer this for me? I'd really like to purchase one of these tuners if I will be happy with it and if can eliminate some of the things I am concerned with. Thanks~

It doesn't de-tune, so much as hold the tranny in 4th gear instead of dropping down to 3rd, I've found. You don't want to be doing 80 in 3rd, that would practically be redlining

Yep, 4k in OD with a locked converter is well over 6k in 3rd and the converter unlocked.

Something isn't exactly adding up as to what you hope to achieve.

Ok...well let me clarify. I may technically not be doing 80 but here is what is happening. I have an auto, not a 6spd...but as I am cruising down an on-ramp and get on the throttle to get out into traffic, it downshifts into third like its supposed to. If I hold it to the floor, its seems as though it shifts before it needs too and doesn't continue to climb as hard as it was.

Is this more the computer telling the tranny what to do and when to shift? Or is the computer defueling the motor, causing it to shift sooner than needed?

Do any of you with the superchip tuner have this issue?

Sounds like the JK is doing what it's supposed to do. I have owned 2 autos previous to the 6spd, and both of mine did the same exact thing. It will shift in order to keep from damaging the auto tranny, and also to use the best rpm range for the motor........I think what you are looking for is a better shifting pattern, which the superchips will give you. I hope this helps.....

Sounds good. This is what I figured it was doing, which is fine but does get annoying. Its not like us JK owners beat on them like were driving a sports car, but if we need to pass a car/merge into traffic, we sure don't need these things falling on there face! Sounds like I will be purchasing a Superchip tuner soon. Thanks
