Question about updates......

My tuner is 3 weeks old. In that time, I have rec'd no updates other then the one that loaded when I originally connected for the first time. After reading some of these threads, I was expected to get almost weekly updates.........people seemed to complain about frequent updates. That said, my tuner is working great, just curious if I am doing something incorrectly. Don't want to miss an update.

Thanks.

The majority of updates are additions to the vehicle profile database and have nothing to do with the actual tunes. There are at times updates which make changes to the tunes, and the way to obtain them is the update application. There isn't any particular notification that these are available, and I would either check their forum or this one if there is something in particular.

Personally, I don't go searching for updates and generally I do them every 3,000 miles when I set back to stock for my trip to the dealer where I get my oil changed and tires rotated for $30. That's really about the only time I do updates unless I have seen some new feature posted here or better results coming from one of the updates. With the relearn process of the PCM it's just not worth it to me to be constantly updating the Flashpaq. The other thing is I really don't like needing to boot into windows, a phobia of sorts and I try to stay away as much as I can.

Are you poking some fun at me?

I know I'm a fuel mileage miser, but it's all so I can save my nickels so I too can have some Rock Monsters which I've been drooling over ever since the first time I saw your Jeep.

I am really hopeful that we do get a Diesel here in the states, and perhaps now that Fiat is in the mix we can get the same one they put in the Iveco Massif. Not that it's all that different from the CRD, just that a new player is holding the cards. Supply chain logistics would take years to get that figured out and by then hopefully we at least have the Pentastar in a Wrangler. I also don't believe that SC and the Flashpaq would be the big kid on the block if we had a Diesel motor.

Hey Windrocker, any reason why you decided on the interceptor over the Scangauge Xgauge? I've got the xgauge and would like to hear your thoughts.

JPOP, there is just too much diesel tec out there to not have one in a Wrangler, eventually. Imagine better torque, equal horsepower, and a 50% increase in mileage.
A friend's Golf 2 door, has the VW TDI engine, gave over 300 ftlbs of torque and about 175hp, and delivered 52mpg!
Of course it's not over for gas engines either. The 3.5 liter V6 in my Lexus gives 306 HP, 280ftlbs of torque, and 26+mpg with a 6-speed automatic.
Maybe we'll see some of that kind of performance from the Pentastar, but in the meantime I'm very satidfied with my 3.8 in the Jeep, thanks to the Flashpaq. It has adequate power, and apparently excellent reliability. And while we hear about broken axles, u-joints, and driveshafts offroad, we don't hear about broken crankshafts or rods.
A question, from what you know about the 3.8, and any othe experience with it, what kind of lifespan do you reckon we're looking at with the average Jeep that gets regular maintenance?

anyone else using this feature successfully? jpop - i couldn't tell from your post - are you using this feature?
Each time you select the data acquisition choice in the updater you are actvating or inactivating it. There is no indication of this. If it isn't working for you try it "once" more with the updater and it should work. This was my experience with it. I read this online somewhere.

Still running 87. I haven't run out of gas yet. This is crazy, in around town driving, and not taking it easy on it at all, my gas light just came on at 370 miles. Doesn't make any sense why I'm suddenly getting so much better gas mileage... Oh well, not complaining...

At higher elevation, 85 octane is regular and 87/88 is midgrade. We're both in Colorado.

Yeah, positive. I haven't been in CO long, but I'm consistently getting much better gas mileage all of the sudden. Its either the altitude (which doesn't make any sense to me) or my engine finally broke in on the 1500 mile trip out here. I'm at almost 15k miles...

Hmmm, It makes sense that your aero-drag would be a lot less, but my thoughts have always been that you would be somewhat air starved. I'll be curious to hear if this continues.
