For the comment- i like both of the snorles however i prefer the rounded style of the AEV than the box style..
Snorkel stays in place on the fender when the hood is raised.

On a side note.... River Raider recently changed the look of their snorkel to where it is more rounded, doesnt resemble a rain gutter as much. My understanding after talking to Kenny (River Raider) is the new style will not be available til next month.

My wife wasnt a fan of snorkels until recently. I told her no more deep water until she picks one to install on her JK. Pic below might not look that deep but her Jk has a 6" lift on 37's

I just went to their site and looked at it.

I really like that new one.

Very simple and clean looking.

AEV for me. It what I got and I've tested it. I was up to my hood in water and the engine was running just fine. Now, I did flood out my interior and it took me a week to get my Jeep all cleaned up and swap out all of my fluids. I won't do it again but I'm happy it worked. (I got a little reckless with my new snorkel and made a bad decision)

Also, I like the RR but the price is a little much and after assisting in installing a RR snorkel on a friends JK and an ARB on my friends TJ I found the AEV to be much much easier to install.

I had the AEV (Safari) snorkel on my 03 TJ Rubicon and beat the crap out of it on trees and was in water up to my windshield numerous times and never a worry. No doubt when funds allow AEV will make it to the JK.

The AEV is made of cheap plastic and can get weather cracks. I would go for the RIVER RAIDER aluminum snorkel!!!

i went with the aev for a few reasons.....price, ease of install, and i dont like how the RR is installed with all the tubes and hoses going to the air box....seems like to much for me, the aev is very straight forward, made well, no issues whatsoever. I prefered the looks of the RR, but that didnt justify it...i'm happy with my aev and really like how it looks now! It served me very well when i got stuck underwater for almost 3 hrs with the whole hood submergered, with the waterline about a foot form the snorkel intake

I installed my RR in about 2hrs, the battery just gets turned sideways but requires some slight trimming of some plastic under the hood, really easy.

here is link to some pics I took during install http://s259.photobucket.com/albums/h...der%20snorkel/

well thats nice and all that you think the plastic will just give and not crack when you dont know for sure....I can tell you I've had my jeep slide off a rock and stop on a tree with just the top of the snorkel touching the tree stopping the jeep and not even a scratch, just saying they do NOT bend like so many think they will because they are aluminum, they arent made from aluminum foil lol.

I think it is actually a really easy install and drilling was easy, just pay attention to what you are doing

all the tubes? you just make it sounds like there are 10 tubes going to it

Ok so with all that said here is my take on the RR vs aev

The RR will work jsut as good as the Aev, its really all the debate on the cost and which you like the looks of better. Yes the RR cant be turned around to avoid getting water in the top, but I have hit holes more times then I can count, well over 100, where I had water go higher then the snorkel top and only this last time did I get water in it, very close call. I actually had a hydro cai cover that I put over it my last run to test how much mud I got up there and I forgot about putting it on this run, it would have prevented the intake getting filled with water. I will make sure I run it from now on because I will NOT slow down thru mud and water, its just to much fun to me

Anyone running a cai on a jeep should have one too, all the manufactures make them.

here is pic of it on my snorkel

I think its mostly because of price and I dont blame anyone for that. When I got my RR it was thee Only choice, I've had it since jan of 08
