Project-JK Death Valley Racetrack Run
Yeah if he's still trying to salvage the pics, but he said he was trying to figure out how to format the card, so I assumed he had already given up on trying to salvage the pics.
I have the corrupt pictures on a computer so I reformatted the card in the camera and now the format is: RAW. I never heard of this format.
I downloaded the pictures to a sony laptop ( I have a sony camera and a sony memory stick card too.
The wierd thing is the pictures are not corrupt on the sony laptop buy they are corrept on 2 other non sony computers. Do all computers running window XP home run the RAW file types OK?
I'm going to re upload them with the sony laptop to fix webshots,.
but I reaaly want to use my other compute for everything so any more ideas on why this happens?
Also I don't use USB to transfer: the camera doesn't have the option. I do use a sony memory stick adapter and transfer the pictures to the computer that way.
Thanks for the advice.

How'd you end with RAW?
Did you perhaps have your camera to set shoot RAW+JPEG? There will be a way for you to set the picture format in your camera (different from "formatting" a card). You should have options for RAW and JPEG, possibly RAW+JPEG, and sometimess TIFF. You need a RAW converter to do anything with RAW files; I think Vista came with a RAW converter built into it's image program, but XP does not. Do you use any image editing programs? Most of them will have a RAW converter than you can download...they are specific to your camera manufacturer - a Sony RAW file is not the same as a Canon which is not the same as a Nikon. Same day it will get standardized...but until then. What is the file extension designation? Doug what camera do you have (specific model)?
Edited to add - if your camera can shoot RAW, you should have RAW converter software packaged in the box for your camera, or you can download it from your camera's site if you don't use image editing software. Either way should be fine.

You dont want to shoot in RAW unless you are serious about it like Offtopic. The files are more than twice as big and there is a lot of hassle involved. RAW enables you more lattitude in adjusting lighting, colors, shadows, etc. It is more for the professional. You will probably want to set your camera to the highest JPEG setting.

If we know what camera you have, we can tell you how to get it back to jpeg.
Have you already downloaded some files that are in RAW? If not, I wouldn't even worry about it - like Rubimon says it's a pain in the butt. But if you have RAW files and you want to give it a try converting, I should be able to walk you through installing and using the software to do the conversions. One time will be enough to convince you that you don't want to shoot RAW!

I have to run now I'll check back latter. THANKS!!!
New camera's they're great when the work or you know how to use them. Otherwise they drive you crazy
Sorry, doing a little research-
Your camera doesn't shoot RAW, only jpeg. What makes you think/what is telling you that the format is RAW? That means "something" isn't recognizing the jpeg file format for some reason and is making the incorrect assumption that it's a RAW file.
You also don't have any jpeg quality settings, only file size settings. The largest jpeg setting is an 8MB file. Which doesn't affect this problem, but Rubimon had mentioned it earlier so I just wanted to clarify.
You formatted the card in the camera - good. Then did you take a few shots and try to copy them to your computer, and something told you they were RAW files?
Are you using a Memory Stick Duo? A regular memory stick won't work with your camera.

Just a thought - Sony uses something called Clear RAW noise reduction technology, which has nothing to do with the RAW file format. Do you possibly have your ISO set really high and are seeing an indicator that the Clear RAW technology is being used?
