New JK Headlights

Got mine yesterday late in the day. I got everything ready this morning and started at noon. It had warmed up to 18 deg. I have an 08 and had to do the trimming thing. One side snapped in slightly the other not at all. I used zip ties and requested the new pigtails when they are made. I also have a very good write up on headlight aiming and will do that when I get my yardstick, masking tape, level and 25 ft tape measure together AND it warms up a bit. I need to do that at a local parking lot since my driveway is not flat. A great addition for my older eyes.

Did the install on a 2010 Unlimited with a 10/09 date of manufacture. The included harness adaptors did not snap in but did insert fully. Trimmed the triangular locking center rib for length on the first harness, it still wound not snap in. Trimmed the height and that was a mistake, I just had not trimmed the length enough. So one connection is zip tied together. Trimmed the second triangular locking center rib to length, 1 - 2 mm shorter and it snapped in just fine. Altogether the install was straight forward and the RR Euro Guards do fit. I did not have to re-aim the headlights after the install. Drove around town last night for 30 minutes and was never flashed. I do plan to double check / refine the aiming when I find a suitable replacement wall for my sloped driveway. Definite difference in color temperature between the IPF 920H4 JK Headlights and the factory fogs. There is a blue cast to the light, as we were riding along my son asked, "Are these lights blue instead of yellow? The "tail" discussed in the following link, post 31 - 33, does appear to assist in illuminating street signs.

Just did the install on a 2009 - and had the same results as KingTeddyBear. I needed to trim about 1/8 " off the length of the center tab so it would "click".

Used the grease on the plugs on the bulb, but not on the female h4 connector.

Took me 45 minutes - had an extra set of hands helping hold the bulb/boot while I put on the headlamp and clicked the wire in place to hold the bulb in.

Reminder - be carefull handling the bulb as to not get grease or finger prints on them.

Waiting for dark to go test them out.

They have the same tint to them and look very similar. I have run SilverStars in both my fogs and headlights for a while now, but I am more excited about upgrading to the new housing than anything else. The bulbs that come with these IPF lights are very similar in tint to the SilverStars, and an H4 SilverStar replacement bulb would probably work and achieve the same result.
Thats what Im wondering. If they are worth the dough if you already have the Silverstars?

I didn't have silverstars in the jeep but I do have silverstar ultras in another vehicle and there is no comparison to these lights. I have to say they were worth the money IMHO.

i'll let you know when mine get here... i have the silverstars in my headlights but i can't wait to get these IPFs. the silverstars certainly made the lights brighter, but the problem is still the housing. I got these mostly for the housing, but I will be sure to let people know my opinions when mine get here.

On a side note, why have mine not arrived yet? I am in Michigan... And I pre-ordered on Jan. 5th...

Yes, they are.
The SilverStar bulbs certainly helped over the stock bulbs, and they did put a brighter white light on the road. But the problem was still the crappy beam pattern of the stock lens housing.

The new IPF lights are not necessarily any "brighter" in some areas of the road...I think where the stock housing truly directed the light well, the SilverStars were just as bright in those spots as the new IPF lights are. The problem with the stocks were they were bright on a small area, and then quickly faded to nothing.

The IPF lights put a good solid light pattern along much more of the road surface. They are not even close to the stock housing with SilverStar bulbs. I get I think almost a better beam pattern with just the IPF headlights on as I did with the stocks with fogs on (SilverStars in both). Turn the fogs on...and wow.

The ONLY thing I need to do is to adjust the IPFs up a little higher....the stock highs shot so high in the air that to make them somewhat functional you really needed to adjust down a little too low on the low beams....with the IPFs I can tell I can adjust the lows up more, and still get a good high beam pattern. The high beam pattern on the IPFs smoke the stocks with SilverStars as well.

Lets just say that this is one of the best $170 I have spent on my Jeep.

Anyone want to buy a slightly used set of SilverStar bulbs for their stock lights
