What would you like in a snorkel design?

x2 I think this location is my vote but I guess I won't know til I see it.

EDIT: Is this about where the location would be for that ^^^^ option

Rugged Ridge, how high do you plan on making the intake above the hood (you said the windshield will still be able to be folded down, but wouldn't that make the intake really, really short)? I don't care if I can't fold down the windshield

The intake would be about 2.5" tall off the cowl and follow the w/s fold line. This is flater than the cowl line and will allow a larger air box at the outside edge.

The mushroom that you show is to tall for what we are looking to do. We want it to look as if Jeep had designed it on the JK in the first place.

I see........

A mirror to the A/C vent scoop? Just brainstorming.

And I'm assuming that whatever shape the inlet is going to be that it's either open all around or just to the windshield. My experience with the A/C scoop is that it works much better facing rearward.

Just thinkin'

Correct regarding the rearward facing intake..... still playing with locations. .. Here is another image... Still in the early development of the intake so please excuse the amateur look of the design. Easier to work in a solid media to figure out fitment issues before spending time rendering in SolidWorks. The more I do up front the quicker it can go on that side of the development. If we have a hard model that we know does not have fitment issues we spend less time and $$ on rapid prototype media. That stuff aint cheap.

The yellow circles show the two areas I'm talking about.

I like where this is going. I just wanted to show my support and say that I would buy a set up like this.

Wow, really liking where this is going. I don't care for the aev snorkel's looks and don't plan on going into water wayyy on up over the hood, but I like the idea of having the intake moved up to the cowl where I can monitor it. I like the location where it does not interfere with light mounts. If this is affordable I'll definitely buy one!

I think either of these locations will work. i like the side location near the antennae better than the other one. since we don;t need a snorkel for the deep water over the hood 99% of the time , can we get interchangeable pieces to accomplish a couple of things. a hood scoop attachement that would function as a forced air system for everyday driving/wheeling. this would be a nicer day to day look also. then have an extension piece for the offroad days when deep water is expected. both attachments need to be structurally sound when attached. it should be the jeep owners option which piece is attached (scoop or extension tube) and not be worried about it falling off for any reason. should be easy to interchange also between the two options with minimal tubes.

make sense?

I know you said it is an early prototype of the side cowl location, but is the pic attached an example of what the lower snorkel could look like or is that a pic of the inlet and their will be some kind of snorkel scoop attached?

Exactly what I was thinking.

RR, the left circle area can be very crowded on many modd'ed JKs (with wiring, single or dual batteries underneath, various manufacturer's windshield brackets and various sized lights, cargo / lightbar frames etc).

I do like your idea and expect to be a purchaser (provided it fits with my set-up). I would think the right hand circle area would be the preferred mounting point for a mushroom or ram-air snorkel air intake (same as the TJ's mushroom in prior photo).

There are numerous other accessories I'd like on my JK, but do not have because my current set-up doesn't allow them to fit. Because every JK has a different array of accessories in this crowded cowl area, I figure the right side would win you more orders.

Keep the info coming, cheers
