What would you like in a snorkel design?
can someone explain to me how the low intake is better then stock. I mean, i dont want the tall stalk, but like the idea of being able to splash a little bit more and go a little deeper in the water. so the lower one would work for me, right? Is it actully higher then stock inlet?
I have a question for RR, if you were to draw a line across the bottom of the lower hinge. Does any part of this hang lower than that? Reason I ask is I have the Pure Jeep rocker armor and there are 2 bolts that run through the fender just below the bottom hinge line.
Thanks.
Thanks.
Question. Has this been ran on a Dyno yet. I would like to know if the Performance is better, worse or indifferent? I would like to see the Dyno results at stock vs. the snorkel. I was thinking that this snorkel along with my Superchips programmer and an aftermarket exhuast would be a good combination.

Again, it is a snorkel that is tied into the factory intake system. All our plumbing is attached downstream of the factory air filter. We have paid close attention to the size and shape of the air flow openings to maintain them to be just at or larger than the smallest opening of the stock system. The stock air box has about a 6.5" area opening as it feeds air into the lower stock air box (under filter). Our smallest (main body) opening located as the air turns behind the fender is 6.8" so we are not restricting area in regards to opening size. We have also modeled the design to maximize air flow through the main body and aluminum air tube. Area openings are as flow:
(Low mount intake) = 7.5"
(Main Body, smallest point) = 6.8"
(Aluminum air tube and couplings) = 7"
The only opening that has a slightly smaller area is the connection point of the high intake and ram air intake head. This hovers around 5.5" and 6.2" so it is smaller than the OE intake. This is one area we are working to open up to match the factory intake.
How does this relate to your question, well first we have stated many, many times in this thread that the snorkel is and was never intended to be a cold air intake system. We have never stated that this would improve air flow and have tried to be very, very realistic in regards to what the customer can expect in regards to performance. With that said we are looking to retain stock air flow numbers as our base. If we fall below this than it is being reworked. If we hit that mark than we have designed it correctly and any gains after that will be a bonus for us and the customer. Remember, this is a Snorkel by design and NOT are performance part. Other designs that exit at or above the factory air box have an easier time retaining or even possible improving these numbers. We wanted to look and see if it could be done differently and offer a better looking, more realistic approach to the design.
When the final version has been developed we will be doing dyno test... We will share these numbers good or bad. That is my pledge to all you guys and gals that have been following the thread.
I'm sure that I will need to answer this question again later down the road...
Of course you will.. No one actually reads the thread to see if a question has been answered before they ask it. That just wreaks of effort. This thread has been around for so long now that even I'm getting sick of lazy f-ing people asking questions that have already been answered two or three times. Or maybe that happened a couple hundred posts ago. Hurry up and release this thing so u can buy it and unsubscribe to this thread damn it!

Also, how soon till you can take my money. I want this snorkel! And sell it first, dyno later. No one cares about dyno numbers for a snorkel, its for swimming not for racing!

. It is a snorkel on the stock airbox people. If it gains .1whp i'd be impressed. If it looses up to 5whp i will not be shocked.
