Maybe I don't understand the design but if I enter deep enough water, the water is going to flow up the hood. The snorkels on the market now provide us with a breathing point at the top of the windshield. Won't this one take any of the water that runs up the hood directly in? Is this designed for people who just want to move their air box intake farther back to avoid puddle splash hydrolock?

Is that ribbed bit on the side necessary? Other than that it looks good.

Looks good, but windshield lights will no longer be a possibility with this

I haven't done fording in the Jeep, but if the water is so deep that it would roll over the hood that much, you might want to slow down a bit. Big rocks or logs can stop you pretty fast if you don't see them.

I agree you need to take it slow in water but that doesn't stop it from coming up on the hood. One of the places I used to wheel had some water/mud holes that we knew were clear of any derbis like logs and rocks. Even at slow speeds it was water up to the windshield.

Any water/mud hole that I am not familar with is going to be attacked at a crawl for sure.

After all having to get towed out of a hole isn't cheap, nor are repairs... not that that has every happened...

Regarding the last few posts about water fording. If read the whole thread (yeah alot of pages) or just the first few pages you'll find that this is a convertable system. A low mount intake and a snorkel that can be added when needed.

I've been following this thread since the beginning, and am anxiously awaiting the finished product.

These pics show only the lower intake This snorkel is designed to be modular like Rugged Ridge's bumpers. There will also be a higher intake for off road that will be the same height as all of the other competitors snorkels. IMO it is a very nice system. On road you can have a tru CAI in the form of a lower intake snorkel, and you can easily switch to a functional high intake snorkel for the trails.

Only thing I can think of is that it is for the upper intake (from their original sketches) to allow air flow
