1st gear pop out every day.. ?!
Forgive me for asking, but what is your right hand doing when you accelerate in first? I can get maybe 7mph out of that gear without redlining it. I don't frequently leave it in for more than 5 seconds, so my hand is always on the shifter from a start.
In my case, I never get hurt by my Jeep yet
and my dealer was very kind and he swap my tranny right on the spot without even take it for a test drive. So im just sharing an idea to "force" him and have it repaired asap.
If you prefer, just try another dealer...
Just got my Jeep back from the dealership on Thursday for this issue. They replaced the transmission, no questions asked. After pulling out onto the highway and nearly getting t-boned because the POS popped out of gear, I figured it was time to get something done about it. So far the new transmission is working great.
It's happened to me a few times. Once I was on a hill and put it in first. Once i gave it some gas/released the clutch, the shifter popED back into neutral. I figured it was because i didn't put in in first gear all the way and a couple times that was the case.
Has this happened to anyone with a 2009. If so i'll probably go see the dealership about the new tranny.

I got tired of having to duct tape my shift lever towards the dash console everytime I was in first gear, so I brought it back and they replaced the entire trans and shift assembly. Tell them that you were pulling out into traffic on a highway entrance ramp, and it popped out of first and you almost got creamed by an 18 wheeler doing 70 that locked up its brakes and caused a 6 car pileup becasue your tranny popped out of first and you sat there coasting out into traffic at 2 mph while you tried to get it back into gear ....again......for the 80th time.
Worked for me :-)

.. that should get your tranny replaced quickly...
I just gave mine a test and tried to pull it out of first and it takes a pretty reasonable amount of force when accelerating. Nowhere near as much force is needed when slowing down and no force at all when RPMs are matched.
not related by the strenght you have to apply to the stick shift for pulling it out of gear when accelerating in my case.
