Good luck...
I just took mine in today because it has been doing this for months. I thought it was me so I tried to be careful, moved my seat forward and it still does it. Sometimes I have to put the clutch in twice to make sure it is in gear (hard to get in 1st). It has done it with my husband in the passenger seat and I have driven sticks all my life and never had this problem.

The dealer said there is no recall for my 2009 JK. I cannot find one on the Jeep site. But the dealer said they would check it out. The tranny mechanic was in the service office and he said there was a problem with the 07 and 08s but they got it fixed in the 09s. We'll see what happens since I left it there. At least they gave me a free rental car.

Be sure you have first fully engaged.. The 1/2 synchronizer has a triple cone synchro and might give you a hard shift into first during cold conditions. These cones have to line up..If a real pop out exists, you can re-simulate this by "helping" the pop out by exerting a slight pull force on the shift lever (simulating road bounces) whilst accelerating..

Because of torque load the first synchro needs to have good back taper on the coupling sleeve spline and on the gear dog teeth to assure a positive lock whilst engaged.. I am convinced this is where the NSG370 OEM screwed up.. They are indeed replacing the 1/2 synchronizer with a field synchronizer p/n 68089512AA..

FYI
Thank you and I am glad to have found this information because I probably would have continued thinking it was me. At least I have the TSB info if they try to give me the "We couldn't replicate the problem" nonsense.

I had an 09 Wrangler that I left in Guam. Never had this issue. Bought a 10 when I returned to the mainland and it's popped out of gear 10-12 times in 750 mile. Scared the crap out of me the first time it happened.

Took a week for them to get parts but dealer did the TSB. I read the notes from the mechanic and he noted that I had a cell phone holder installed on the dash. Well that's only been there 2 weeks and shift problem has been happening for months. They did not believe me but fixed it anyway. They drove it a whole 17 miles when I took it in and said we couldn't make it go out of gear. Wow a whole 17 mile test drive?

They did the repair anyway. At least the paperwork says they did. They'd probably get in trouble for lying if they did not do the repair but said they did. Have had it back a week and no slamming out of gear yet so hopefully its fixed. Anyone having this problem needs to be firm with their dealer to get them to do it.

You just have to see a "good" dealer.. mine didn't even tried my JK before change the whole tranny without any further question. I've just said that my 1st gear wont stop popping out of gear and "bam" the new tranny was ordered and installed the next day. free coffee during installation.

Good luck to everyone with this TSB.. my tranny was swapped before the TSB fyi.

I had the TSB performed last week. Awesome to be able to get on it in first without worrying about it jumping out of gear.

In addition to what I saw on the TSB above, they replaced my first and second gear set according to my paperwork. I did not talk to the tech, but I assume this means mine was chipped or had excessive wear from the popping out.

Dealer said that if this was not under warranty, that repair would have been over $2,000. Get it done before being out of warranty
