Unions built America? Only because there were no mexicans to work for cheap. People like Carnegie had to appease the unions or they would get violent.
The violence was initiated by both sides.

Cheap labor? Perhaps not of Mexican decent, but as an example, Chinese immigrants were worked to death building the railroads of this country. I won't even get into slavery. They were often times just simply shot & killed for the hell of it. Although I agree that there are currently unions which take advantage of the companies whom they provide labor to and are thoroughly corrupt, it is also obvious as to what happens without organized labor unions (i.e. Walmart). People are taken advantage of.

It used to be a man could aquire a profession in this country, and earn enough to provide for his entire family. Not so easy anymore. How many stay home moms do you see nowadays? Is that a cause of unions? I don't think so. It's because of large corporations wanting to make more money by employing cheap labor.

I belong to a union, and I can tell you without a doubt that we'd be getting royally fuck*d over if we didn't stick together. The kind of job I do can't be replaced with cheap labor. But if our employer(s) had it their way, we'd be getting paid minimum wage.

Edit: BTW, this thread has completely gone off topic!

What would you prefer, under skilled Mexicans assembling the engines, or drunk stoned Americans assembling it?

And now most companies have outsourced anyway.

Unions are exactly the reason that American car companies have been in the crapper for the last 30 years.

You can thank the fractional banking system and corporations... Read up on Thomas Jefferson, Adams & Madison... They warned us of everything playing out today... To a T.... We are the fools doomed to repeating history... Has nothing to do with unions...
