all you have to do is get a jeep ad take it to the dealer. say the article says trail rated and that they need to fix it to make it trail ready. if the ad shows that it can do it and you do it and it screws the jeep up... then it aint trail rated. false advertisement. simply tell them fix it or lawsuite.

Wait I may have misspoken. That was the way I was taught way back when. lol. Usually Reverse is a deeper gear than first, which is why you would want to use reverse. You always want to use the deepest gear. I forgot that first gear on the NSG 370 was lower than reverse. It has been engrained in my brain since I was little to always use reverse as the park gear. lol. But when you have 3, 4 and even most 5 speeds that have a lower Reverse gear than first gear that is what you want to use. Sorry for the confusion.
If you have another manual trans vehicle try this, take it out on a hill and just shut it off while in first gear. Take your foot off the brake and just sit there. Let it roll a little bit and see how far you roll in x amount of time. Then do the same thing in Reverse, and test it out.

The main reason I pointed that out was because someone said something about putting in 3rd gear when they parked. That's not good.
If I am on a hill I don't trust just my gears, and I don't trust just my e-brake. I want it in the lowest gearing and I want I want the e-brake working as well. I have put it in 4lo and in Reverse (in the TJ) and set the park brake before just so I had an extra piece of mind that it wasn't going to go rolling off on me.

Roger that. I forgot the NSG had a lower first than Reverse. You are correct, that 1st gear on the JK will be better for parking. I don't know if I can get used to that or not. lol. I'm so used to throwing in Reverse all these years when I park. Although it's not that big of a difference, I guess. But yes 1st will definitly hold better in this instance. Good catch

The theory sounds good, but I don't think it would actually work this way.

Wow this explains why I can drive up my driveway easier forwards than reverse, it had me stuffed, didn't realise the gear ratios were unusual.

That's how I was taught as well. My car is parked in the garage in reverse now. I don't know why, maybe it was just growing up in CA where parking on hills was an every day occurrence, but I still do it in the flat Midwest. My Jeep is an auto, so it has this setting called "P" which I now use whenever I park it
