Random No Crank Club
I just put a new yellow top Optima in mine a few weeks ago due with the same symptoms. I'm out here on the road for work and my wife's calling me today saying the Jeep isn't starting all the time again. I'll have to try that jumper when I get home. I told her about the "neutral" trick. Hopefully if it happens again that will at least get her home. Thanks for the tips.
My parents had a 98 grand voyager that did this (though it was the 3.3L and not the 3.8). Everything would come on that was electrical but nothing would happen when you turned the key. No dealership, or maitenance shop could give a definitive diagnoses. Eventually a dealership said to change the ecu out. But it started to happen again 4 months after that. I always thought it to be a fuse problem, and even wanted to try to hook up a battery disconnect switch to it.
I sure hope it doesnt happen to mine.

I have joined the random no crank club with my 6 speed rubi.
I took it to the dealer and they checked some stuff and said to drive it and see if the next time it does it let them know if the dash lights up or not. So I go to leave and guess what push in the clutch turn the key and nothing. I held the key for about 15 seconds then it cranked up.
So I left it with the dealer and took a charger home.
Right now they are thinking WCM or starter. I will update when I get it back.

I just got back in town. I added the wire from the negative terminal to the alternator bracket this morning. I was at Auto Zone getting the stuff to add the wire and the Jeep wouldn't crank when I was trying to leave. I put it in neutral and it started right up. So hopefully this will stop the "No Crank" issue. The no crank thing happens like every other day, so I'll write an update in a week or so.
Dealer called and said my wire harness for the starter was burned and they needed to replace it along with the starter.
The harness got burned last year when the bolts fell out of the exhaust manifold to y pipe connection.
So tomorrow I pick it up, then I will know for sure.

Update, dealer did not get the jeep done as parts got there late.
I discussed directly with the tech working on the jeep and he showed me the problem. It was not a burned harness but a significant amount of corrosion at the power connection to the starter solenoid. He showed me the connection and it was really bad. The problem is the Chrysler does not have a screwed connection but only a slide on spade terminal for the solenoid those stupid Fxxxers.
So everyone with the RNCC pull your heat shield off your starter and check the connections at the starter. I bet some of you will find corrosion there and if you can clean it with for example CLR and then plug it back on you might be good. Then also put a ShiXt load of dielectric grease on the connection.
The tech was going to work late tonight to get it put back together with a connection fix plus a new starter. So I pick it up tomorrow at 7:00 AM.
Also there was no mention of my 2in BB or any questions about a few mud bits and pieces under the jeep. Only sorry that we did not have it done by the end of the day.
I have a great dealer, I hope they can stay in business, in fact I think that I will write a letter to the dealer about how good the tech was working on it.
Cheers and check the power wire at the solenoid if you are part of the RNCC.

Just checking in to be a member of the RNCC.
Just happened to me for the first time today. Turn key, click, no start. Repeat. Put in Neutral, started right up. Started 5 other time in Park during the day.
I did put a new DieHard Platinum in 2,000 miles ago because I had a problem starting it. I wonder if that was really the first time I had this problem and I just thought the battery was bad.

It's been three days since I put that extra ground wire on, so far it's been starting every time. I did notice when I was doing it that one of the fender mounting bolts , under the hood, on the passenger side was covered in corrosion. The same type you get on battery terminals.

Got any pics?
