Unless you want to get hospitalized, get dead, or go to jail, nobody really gets an early out.

If you want to do it. do your four and leave, no shame in that at all. But running away from something you start before it is done says alot about your character. Think about it. A LOT. It will come back to haunt you, i guarantee it. It always does.

To my knowledge, there is no easy way out of any branch of the service except what i said above, and i dont count those as easy. There is always a price for what you do. They invest a great deal of time and money to train you, why would they let you out before you fulfilled your commitment to them to repay that debt with your service?

Yes well put Happy, well put. Thank you

I wouldnt mind staying the the Military in any branch, country, place for any number of years IF i was MP, and since i cant be that my only interest in the military is carrer building for resumes and work history, i see no shame in it..i guess im not as patriotic but its hard to be wne your contry denys you the job you really really want.,.. etc etc etc

that said, while i am in service i will perform to the best of my abilities in that field

after i am eligible to become MP i might switch to that in the army, Being a E-4 possible in 4-5 years or go into local law enforcement ..wich is my long term goal

So of the 5 branches.... none will let you be an MP?

i find that hard to believe, are you sure? MP's are needed everywhere. When i was in tech, they had a LOT of MP trainees, and all of the ones where i was where newbs.

I see where you are coming from, but if everyone who joined the military got the job they wanted, then it would not be a balanced system. There would be more scout snipers than chefs, or everybody would want to be a seal. They have to deceive you because the military's numbers are dwindling, but when they put you in a job you don't want, you are of more use to them. Sometimes you get lucky (like rupe) and you get the job you wanted and you are still of good use to the military, but that usually isn't the case. You have to know this before you go in. Otherwise, you'll end up disappointed. The military is not the place to go for a temporary job. It is a commitment. OK I'm off the soap box.

I don't wnt you to think that I'm picking on you, but you have hit on to careers that I have had. The military and law enforcement. So far with what you are showing, you will not make it in either. Listen, just because you can't be a MP in the service doesn't mean you can get into law enforcement later. What they are looking for is people that can follow orders, know what the chain of command is, an honerable discharge etc. My military had nothing to do with police work but I spent most of my adult life as a cop. So try something else in the military. They have alot of cool jobs. Talk to the guys that get to blow things up or fly jets. The amount of computer trainning is unbelievable now days. Don't short change yourself on a whole lot of experances by looking at the military the way you are looking at it.

ps, you should beable to make E-5 at least in 4 years if it's anything like when I was in. With the military hurting for troops, I would think you could go up in rate/rank pretty quik. But I don't know anymore.

I totally agree with the points above about going in for the right reasons. Being Patriotic does not necessarily mean you agree with the government. It means that you believe your Country and way of life are worth fighting for. I personally was in during the Clinton era and I was as much anti-Clinton as many of the liberals today are anti-Bush.

I was in for four years and would have served longer had there been some different circumstances. My wife was having our first child and I had been overseas for nearly a year by myself (yes he IS my child -- I went home for Christmas ). At decision time I got to decide between a civilian job offer and finishing 2 classes to complete my degree and being with my family - OR - jump on another ship and deploy to Bosnia for who knows how long.

Believe it or not it was a tough choice because I REALLY loved my job . And my job was nothing like what I thought I wanted to do before going in.

My advice: Get in, do your job without whining, and decide whether you want to get out at the end of your commitment. Faking asthma or something like that would probably hold you back from doing things you would love but never thought or knew about in the past.

Also -- I was a senior E4 soon to make E5 during "peacetime" when I got out and would not trade those four years for the world.

well..guess what i gots good news that got me mad away

In Any military branch...after you join and are in service for 2 yeard you can request citizenship, and in the USAF you can request a new MOS after 36 months...so instead of waiting almost 5 years, i can be an MP in 3 and if i chose to get out be a CO in 3, just in time for my 21st b-day.... wow.. i guess i was wrong then. :toung:
