Most robbies occur when no one is home. People who want to steal your stuff don't want to get caught. People who break in while you are home are most likely not there to steal your dvd player. They are there to do you harm. Just my opinon.

ditto on the Remington 870 Express. I am not a big fan of a handgun for home defense since a stray bullet can go through walls and...

I live in a safe neighborhood and I have kids so my guns are locked up in a safe, one thing I do have next to my bed is a can of wasp killer. You can shoot the wasp killer like 20 feet and a shot in the face would make anyone wish they were hit with a buckshot instead.

I have seen what a shot gun can do to flesh using every kind of round out there.

I have a loaded but not chambered shotgun near at hand in my home all the time... I stress NOT chambered just for the fact that "IF" some one were to ever break into my home and threaten me or my family, I have absolutely no problem putting them down, but I believe in giving the guy a choice to either flee or die!!!

In this part of the world, most people who break into homes are kids! albeit bad kids, and I personally have a problem killing someones kid!! I will do it if I have to, but I would like to think that the life lesson learned by the sound of a shotgun being ratcheted would be enough to keep the kid from being a professional criminal!!!!

I can ratchet and fire in less than 1.5 seconds! I know there are those of you out there who will say that 1.5 seconds is the difference between life and death, and, in some cases maybe it is!!!
We are talking about the inside of our homes, usually at night, and during a robbery in most cases. In this case, the robber will be trying to find things to take, not be standing over you in bed holding a gun to you're head!!
The sound of a shotgun will get his attention, and that 1.5 seconds will be all he has to make up his mind if he will run or make a "move"!!!

Maybe you think I am "soft" or stupid, maybe you don't agree, that's ok... I feel that taking a life is a serious thing that should not be done in haste! If I lived in the middle east or in a larger city or populated area, it would be different, but out here, I am more than likely going to know this kid or someone in his family and I would not want to be looking at them from across a court room while trying to explain why I killed their kid! when all he wanted to do is steal my dvd player, not harm me!!!

It is easy to talk about being a bad ass and taking some one's life if you found them in you're home, but in reality, you are going to be a little scared, a little jittery, maybe a little "not quite awake" when you hear that "thump" in the night, and the time it takes to ratchet you're weapon could give you just enough time to realize it is YOU"RE KID rummaging around in the kitchen or coming home late from a date and not some drug crazed robber out to kill you while taking you're tv....

I don't know, maybe I am a little too forgiving sometimes, maybe a little "soft", but for today, and until situations change, I will give some one 1.5 seconds to make my mind up for me...
I totally agree with what you are saying. I really doubt I would just drop somebody without a thought for just breaking into my house. The first thing I would probably do is say....get down on the floor or I will blow you away. And you're right.....a kid may change his tune about heading down the crime road, after he hears the pump action and lives to tell about it.

On the department we have 70 year old 870's love them to death, but at home I have a Winchester 1300 Defender with the speedfed pistol grip stock and I love it.

Ditto on that! Birdshot will do an amazing amount of damage at the range your gonna run into in the house. Load two followed by buck or slug if yournot certain about it.

Guarantee a close range birdshot intruder will think he's gonna die, if he dosen't.

If its just for home defence or even in your JK I would get the Taurus Judge. Its a 5 shot handgun that looks evil so it has a bit of cool factor and it shoots either a .410 shell or a .45 long Colt. I almost bought one after testing it at a range...just was too broke at the time. The one I almost bought had a longer barrel and it was blued...the vid makes it sound like it only comes one way which is not the case.

the 45 colt is an awesome round, and the Tuarus is a cool toy, but i wouldn't bet on a 410 to save my life. Yeah it works well on snakes, but i have seen it just piss off a squirrel. Load it with 45's then yes, as for the 410, slug or shot is just about worthless IMO.

(still kickin myself for selling my 22/410 over and under though, that was a nice rifle and i was an idiot to sell it.)

maybe im sick and twisted, i dont want them to hear me coming if someone breaks in, i have a m4 with a torch flashlight on it and my 9mm with hollow points... the m4 is if there is multiples and the 9mm is if there is just 1, no need for a shotty.

not everyone has the option of owning an AR type rifle. Some states still have heavy laws against them, so shotguns are more readily available... and shotguns take a little less finesse in aiming. Kinda like using a bulldozer for brain surgery.

(just playing devil's advocate, i have an AR and an 870. I prefer my AR but it is for sale, i need the cash, but my 870 isnt worth spit on resale, so it gets the nod for my closet gun)
