So where have you been mounting the CB's?

This thread is really informative about using the windshield footmans loop. My 2012 freedom top handle actually closes on the footmans loop so the 2012s have to allow for that. I don't know about the 2011s but I imagine they're the same. The previous interiors latch away from the footmans loop so you're free to use the entire loop as a mount.
The L braces should be on the outside of the 3/8" clamp (not sandwiched in them) on this picture for a much tighter fit.

This mount will work with the new 2011/2012 hardtop that uses the footman loop. I copied this idea from someone who copied the idea. I got everything that I needed to do this mount for a Uniden 520 at Home Depot for about $10. This should work with almost any CB if it is not too deep. It works with the 2012 hardtop. It leaves the back of the radio about 2" to the windshield. I might have to get a right angle adapter for the antenna cable.
The insulated clamps are in a box in the nuts and bolts row. 3/8" is the size you want. It is best to put the L brase on the outside of the clamp instead of being sandwiched in there. It will give you a much tighter fit and won't scratch the paint.
The 1" corner brace was in the row with hinges and gate locks. It is the perfect size. You can also put one or both of the L braces facing in to move the mount or get it to work better.
I had some 1/2" size 10 bolts lying around so I used them. As a bonus they are brass so they will not rust. You need 4 of them and washers and nuts. They were the right size to fit very snug through the corner brace.
I put a strip of "rubber foam weather seal" right on the top back of the radio where it touches the windshield panel. It is the stuff you can put around your doors at home to stop drafts. I forgot to take a picture of it. I think it will remove any noise or abrasion to the panel.

I did a write up of how I ran the wire and grounded the mount here -->https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/jk-w...2012-a-231369/

I chose to mount my Cobra 75 in the center console for several reasons. I wanted to be able to get the connection box in case I wanted to run a 3.5mm speaker cable to my radio or to an external speaker later. From what I understand the unit senses the cable and shuts off the internal speaker when a cable in plugged in, so if I mounted it under the console I would not be able to have a coice of using the internal or external speaker. Anyway, I like how the install turned out, let me know what you think.

I'll be running an 2m/70cm HT with mobile antenna for a bit until I can afford a mobile rig. I'll be looking to do a remote display rig. So I'm thinking of running the 75 WXST for trail rides with the Jeep club and that is a great mounting spot. In my '07, I had it mounted behind the glove box with an external speaker hung on the loop above the rearview mirror.
I went with a Uniden 520xl and a Cooltech Gatemount kit with a 4' Firestik. I did the insulated clamp-on-the-footman loop installation although I turned the left corner bracket facing inward which allowed me to center the radio mounting bracket. In the JKU, the 18' of coax included in the kit doesn't reach when running it up through the A pillar. Those with four doors, how are you extending the coax? Thanks!

Just mounted my Cobra 29 LX using some of the ideas in this thread

I like the location because I can see the LCD screen and reach the mic & controls easily. I used some rubber weather seal on the upper rear part of the unit to keep from rattling against the plastic bezel. It's pretty secure, but I'm curious how much it might shake when on the trail
I'm going to try this setup for a couple weeks. If I don't like it, I think I'll mount it inside my center armrest console. It will fit with some minor modification, and being able to lock it inside away from prying eyes and the elements seems like a plus. Best thing about using the current mount above the mirror is it's easy to remove & no drilling was required.
Still waiting to receive my Firestik Firefly & coax I ordered but should hopefully arrive tomorrow

I also have the Tuffy center console. I installed my Yaesu FT-859 in it for the same security reasons. I had considered putting the radios elsewhere, but I didn't want my passengers to hit them with their legs or have them high enough to attract unwanted attention. I also didn't want to have to take them out after weekend wheeling or trips.
