My build is just starting and I figure I will spend the summer dialing it in. I'm only looking at most 2-3 days out at a time. So each trip I'm getting new and better ways to set up, build or do things. This thread has also given me so much info it's almost impossible to absorb it all.

Can someone tell me the name of that expedition documentary on Netflix. I meant to write it down but now it can't find it again.

 

I'm assuming as in expedition/overlanding by vehicle? If so, I too am interested...

 

After looking through this thread over the last couple of nights, I now know what direction I want my 2010 4 door to go!! What are the thoughts on the best wheel, tire and lift to go with? I'm thinking 33s on 17s and AT tires for sure. What tires you guys thinking? And last question is are the duratrac tires mor a A/T or mud?

 

Duratracs are an AT. I'm running them in 35s on a 2.5" coil lift. IMHO, an overlanding build doesn't require any more lift. Even 35s are overkill, but if you like to play on the rocks you'll appreciate that extra inch (okay, I ran 33s for a couple years and kept up with the guys on 35s). 33s will give you better gas mileage/range--about 2 MPG based on my experience. Wheels? Whatever suits you visually. But, do get something with 4.5" or so of backspacing, or plan to run wheel spacers. Good luck with your build!

Just kidding. A part of our trip included a photographic caravan safari into the San Diego Zoo Safari Park (in their truck, not our Jeeps).

Don't know if its "Expedition style", but were running the Rockies living out of the Jeep for 1.5 weeks. My first mistake was packing too much cold weather gear.

 

Good question and I've finally decided on lift now to figure out tire size! Running 3.73s at the moment and regear far in the future I've been cursed with this awful decision! Lol! I also just picked up some 16" wheels with 4.5 bs soooo.......

 

That's what I'm running 35" Duratracs on. Or, you can opt for 33s, which will gain you a couple MPG, but lose you an inch of ground clearance and the respect of your rock crawling friends. LOL.

 

I guess that's the dilemma! 33s make sense but the inch more or so of ground clearance with 35s might be useful! Ill probably go to any off-road park maybe twice a year and that's a fat maybe but I do more traveling when I can when I have the chance! Just wanna make sure I'm ready whenever the situation calls for it!

 

Pretty much my logic for moving to 35s, and probably will stay with them when these wear out (Duratracs, too: Awesome tire!).
