That one is upgraded for the special build, but they are still pretty plush inside.

Mine, the day I picked it up. Added a 4" memory foam pad on top of the provided mattress as well.

Default Looking for advice on Best/cheapest gas and water cans and mounts

I love this thread and I figure you all would give me best opinion...
I am looking for off road gas and water cans.

I currently have a few roto pax cans, I love them but at $50 a can its crazy money in my opinion.

Is there something out there cheaper? Better?

Any opinions and what location are you running yours ..bumper mounts, custom carriers?

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks

Well, short of buying plastic lawnmower gas cans at your local hardware store for a few bucks apiece, there aren't many good options for cheaper. There are some Chinese rip-off jerry cans for about $25. Be aware that they are not as well made as the genuine NATO cans (which are difficult as hen's teeth to find in the U.S. anymore, and consequently more in the $75-150 range when you do).

A quick search found these at Harbor Freight for $36 ... harborfreight.com/5-gallon-jerry-can-99551.html

As I wrote above, I've seen "NATO-style" cans for $25. A quick search and I found a set of four for $120 here ... cheaperthandirt.com/product/ZBQ-1425

They are not lined, and don't have the "V" like the NATO cans. But, if you compare them to the Harbor Freight ones, you'll see a different lid (Harbor Freight lid can be stolen by pranksters--has happened to me twice, and I've never been able to find replacements, even after contacting the manufacturer of the actual plastic cap! "NATO-style" is permanently attached to the can). Durability/quality is, at this point, unknown when compared to the genuine, European-made article. I've read that the lid on these doesn't seal very well. One thing is certain: You don't want a leaking jerry can, especially if, like me, you cook within a few feet of them. LOL.

If you can, mount your cans high so that you can use a siphon hose to move the gas. This is especially true if you have CARB-compliant nozzles, because holding those in position when full, while getting that stupid nozzle to let fuel flow, is awkward at best. You can buy a siphon that uses a special valve to get fuel flowing with a couple quick jerks of the line, along with an extension hose, here ... okoffroad.com/stuff-siphon.htm

My cans are mounted on the Shrockworks jerry can rack, which I bought with their bumper ...

Backway up Mt Lemmon, Tucson, AZ ...

Here my friend Ray, who has the same bumper, refuels after 120+ wet and muddy off-road miles to/from Toroweap/Tuweep on the Grand Canyon rim. This is much easier than holding the cans ...

That is another way they make the interiors. Ours is a 5x10 with an all birch interior built by the Amish for LG. The kitchen in the galley has a sink and a small fridge, and you can also get them with a propane stove if you like.

Some picture of the inside:

It would have to be a custom size can. The flares are too narrow and I believe the space between the flare and the door is too small to mount it the other way. You could probably mount one on top of a wide flat fender, but that would look kinda goofy IMHO.

I've been thinking of getting one of those too. I'm going to wait and see what the smittybilt atlas bumper is like first...and keep saving money...before I make a purchase. The atlas looks like it can carry a couple of Gerry cans too,not sure if it has a hi lift mount like the or fab. Make sure you post pics after your install!
